£498.52 First Service - Comments Please

Thank you for this helpful advice

get a cheaper toy or an 1100 with carbs fixable anywhere in the world no electronics:D:augie
Without wishing to apear rude, this sort of comment seems to arrive too often when someone requires advice; Why not buy a scooter and throw it away when it goes wrong ....or just stick to the car?

I tried sticking to the car, it just broke down and cost a fortune to fix, almost made BMW repairs seem reasonable.

I thought modern technology should mean vehicles become more reliable and need less servicing.

Apart from not wanting an 1100 / 1150 (wanted something lighter and a bit more agile) I also did not want to buy a 6+ year old bike, on the (apparently extremely stupid) assumption a much newer, lower mileage vehicle would benefit from later technology and lessons learned, making it more reliable.

Perhaps we should all sell up and buy the oldest bike we can find.

I just did my 1200 , first service was 90 euro , incl an exchange K1300R for the day .

BMW Park Lane. bunch of idiots...

Hi Guys

Thank so much for all your input, it’s been a real eye opener to see how many of you responded and viewed my post.

I believe that both BMW and Battersea have now received the message; I received a call from a representative from BMW Park Lane today to discuss the cost of my service. I was told that BMW had called the dealership and asked them to look into the matter. They dug through their paperwork and found my invoice and also read all the comments on the UK GSer's site. It’s really important that you add your views whenever possible; they do get read by BMW and the dealerships.

We went through the invoice in detail and he explained the breakdown of the invoice and what work was done to the bike. The feedback I received was as follows:

• All parts were supplied at the same price as any other dealership in the UK.
• Labour costs are approximately £8 an hour more than the competition due to the London location.
• The replacement of the brake fluid and the brake check are in line with standard BMW servicing requirements (Brake check is something that BMW has asked dealerships to do every two years).

In short, Battersea stand by the invoice and believe that the work performed is in line with what BMW recommend and that apart from the premium on their labour costs are in line with the competition (quoting South London BMW and Coopers Tonbridge Wells).

By the end of the call we agreed to disagree, my eyes still water at the sight of the bill and I will stand by comments at the time of paying the bill, I will not be returning to Battersea.

Sorry to hear of your problems but i had the same sort of shafting from Park Lane when i bought a K1300GT SE. I managed to go over the first service by 60 (YES SIXTY!!! ONLY) miles and they not only invalidated my warranty but wouldnt buy back a bike i hated due to severe vibration problems(DONT WORRY SIR THEY ALL DO THAT WHEN THEY ARE NEW QUOTED THE ALLSEEING ALL KNOWLEDEGABLE BATTERSEA BMW!!). they fitted new clutch. plates, etc etc etc, and in fact made it WORSE THAN BEFORE. Bunch of fcuking idiots who still have the cheek and temerity to send me junk mail asking me if I'd like to buy another bike from them. I always stick it back in the post addressed return to sender, and I'm hoping it costs the wankers lots in return postage. They even started sending me emails about rideouts and servicing and other bollocks. I cant even begin to tell anyone some of the replies i've sent them back, but they still havent got the message.

SO, in summary:

BMW BATTERSEA:AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!
BMW PARK LANE : Incidentally now wont return any of my calls, hmm wonder why ignorant bastards!!! ALSO AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!.

Anyway thats the whine over, not that BMW give a fcuk, and I doubt they will rush to ask for my name and or address from the site owners/organisers...

My 600 mile service on my 2010 1200gs has just cost me the sum of £89, so im quite happy with that, and thank you and big BUMP for Bahnstormers who did the job quite quickly, in fact SO quickly I didnt even have chance to ride their courtesy bike back home before they had called me to say my bike was ready(but then i do live 30 miles ish from Bahnstormers in Alton!!) and the only negative i can think of is why charge £15 for a loan bike, but i could have just sat there and waited...

All i need now is some time off work and then i get the opportunity to put some proper mileage on it!!!! Cant wait!!

How exactly does the London location increase labour cost  Are they employing ex hedge fund managers to turn the screws?

They should be paying me for the trouble and strife - not to mention danger - of going through a dodgy part of Stockwell to get to them.

Crumbs - now housing benefit is getting into your bill!

I once booked a girlfriend into the Grosvenor Hotel in Victoria (i thought.) However when we arrived there they were full and so were all the other hotels - I had booked into the Grosvenor, ¨Park Lane - five stars and all that! All this was a long time ago and it cost me a fortune (about the same price as a service for a GS) and I have avoided Park Lane ever since. However I must say that my wife still remembers that last time in 1974 when she was in a five star hotel! Only our daughter can afford them now.

Perhaps I should go to Battersea, sounds like I would have loads to moan about, keep me going for months!

Though as Bahnstormers were so quick are you sure they actually did anything:blast

I do hope so as I am planning on popping along and inflicting myself on them tomorrow, still waiting for BMW to reply to my E-Mail from a week ago, so if you do read this forum Mr / Mrs BMW - GO AND REPLY TO MY BLOODY QUERY!

Bahnstormers are a 130 - 150 mile round trip for me, so I am hoping they do a good job, not that I will be getting anything done tomorrow, but finding out what they can do, and how much it will cost...

Does nobody else ever ask about prices before having the work done:confused:

Much easier to complain about high bills if you got a lower quote first :thumb2

Oh so easy to get a bite around here :D

Just had cracking service on getting my car fixed, pity an alternator for a Vauxhaul Vectra retails at over £400, makes an FD assembly at a grand look like good value.

Just had my 600 mile service at Southport Superbikes and it came in at £250 .

Ehh?
£250 600 mile?Surley you mean 6000?Assuming you still have your first 1200 delivered 29-06-09 then I am guessing it is 6000 unless of course it is 600 and not been used much(at all)and Jim has had Andy do the annual service and brake fluid change too...........

I thought the first service at 600 mile was £99?

Obviously, this has already been picked up but I make the bill £396.02 + VAT.
Bloody extortionate. Main dealers like this need to be named and shamed in as many ways as possible. I got ripped off by a dealer 20 years ago (sold me a second hand bike who's big end went within 6 weeks). I told them that as they wouldn't fix it I would spend the rest of my biking days warning everyone I met how they rip you off. I've since spent £70,000 on bikes/servicing/clothing etc (and that's a VERY conservative estimate) and not a penny of it with them. Add that to my wife's £25,000 and all the friends that I've told I would say that one mistake has cost them dear.

My wife and I even use the shop to test ride their bikes and then go elsewhere to buy them. The best bit was this was over a bill for £400. I have been using Bristol Motoradd for the last 6 years and I'm has happy as a pig in the proverbial. The two dealers named on this thread will NEVER get a penny from me and I really hope many others take notice. Sod em all!
