£5000 to spend...........?

Option 3 for sure. It's a windfall, spend it on something you wouldn't otherwise do; the other stuff will get done sooner or later anyway, if it's really needed at all.

When you are sat in your incontinence chair in the old folks home reflecting on your life, will you fondly remember the bling and farkles, or the trips you took to new and interesting places ?

Your call......

I took a week in the Alps with my brother back in 2003 on an Aprilia Pegaso 650 and MZ 250. The bikes were actually not "that" important but the memories are still fresh.

I had an Aprilia Pegaso some years ago, without doubt the worst bike I had ever owned, the list of things that went wrong with it would fill a forum. If by some miracle it ever would have made it to the top of an Alp I would have taken great delight in throwing it from the top.:D

I am lucky. I have an 1150 and a 1200GSA. I would never sell the 1150 and you would miss it so option 2 is out. Option 1 could be done easily, depends on how much paint you need, but patina is a good thing.

Go for a trip. Your 1150 will take you almost anywhere and whilst bikes can be replaced, memories cannot. Get a map, close your eyes, point to somewhere and just head for it.

30K on an 1150 means that it is now probably fully run in. It should have another 100 - 200K of life before major failure if you are mechanically sympathetic and service it to schedule with top quality lubricants as specified by BMW.

If the suspension is a bit tired get it refurb'd or replaced and then do option three with what is left.

Do an Exotic trip , go to the Himalayas SE Asia South America or Southern India and do a trip of a lifetime . Loads of Companies out there to help , don't just do Europe go somewhere and blow your mind . £5grand goes a long way !:thumby:

Bro has still got Mk1 Peg and often uses it in pref to the GSA. But he did get the carburation sorted out. They ran rich from the factory making them unusable at altitude.

If you are daft enough to consider swapping the 1150 for a 1200 the I would suggest a tour guide and someone to wipe ya bum on this big trip. If you are hiring I'm available for either job if the money is good :D

I recently had an email from a poor chap who happens to be a Nigerian prince! Perhaps you could help his father (he is the king...) who is having difficulty with his diamond mine.................:green gri

All too easy to waste money depends if your frugal & can use it sensibly, pay a chunk off mortgage, spend 1K on bike you've got, nice trip somewhere, put a bit away incase a rainy day occurs once spent & the roof leaks or bike develops probs not good.

Ok here's my dilemma, I have had a small windfall and I'm wondering what to do with it, my choices are:

1) Upgrade the suspension front & rear (Ohlins), seat (Corbin) plus paint the engine, gearbox, swingarm and final drive on my 1150gsa (02 with 30k)

Or..........

2) Part ex the 1150 for a 1200gsa (possibly a later TU)?

Or..........

3) Month off work and take the 1150 on a "trip"?

What would you do?

Some savings for a rainy day?

Wow...thanks for all the replies. It seems the trip is the preferred choice?
Im going to get the suspension sorted, not worry about the paint and head into Europe on an easterly bearing (no plans) till half the money is gone.
Cheers

No argument. No 3 is the only sensible choice. It will just as much fun on a scruffy bike.

if you can spare a few hundred try an off road course, maybe one of the BMW ones, great fun to fall off someone else's bike and an experience even if you never take your own steed off piste

worth doing once as they say and if you have forgotten how it feels to be knackered you will soon remember
