► Alternative screen options

To directly answer your question no however I have had the Touratech version fitted for almost 3 years, looking at the Wunderlich the extension screen profile seems the same or very similar so I assume it will have the same effect, for me that is to change the airflow from hitting in the upper chest area to just above my helmet visor. I was wary of the fixing clamp initially but it has not given any problems for me.

I tried a couple of alternative screens first and found none were ideal for my height and riding style. I had good reports about the Touratech extensions but on further investigation found it was not adjustable, so in effect it creates a tall screen which can be quickly returned to std for off road use.
When I saw the Wunderlich adjustable screen extension at Rainbow BMW (£82.00) I was sold on its adjustability. Its a bit tricky to fit because the grub screws and clamp have a flat face which meet up with the vertical crease on the existing screen. I thought it would come loose and fall off at some stage but in the last 6000 miles has given no trouble. I tried all sorts of height and angle settings, extension in front or behind the main screen before coming up with a compromise which gives no turbulance on my glasses with my visor up at speeds between 35 and 70 mph. At all speeds I ride at there is no helmet turbulance and there is a slight decrease in noise.

The extension makes the screen wobble alarmingly if you have it fully extended. It still wobbles on bumps with it set low and I expected fatigue cracks to appear in the std screen but so far nothing.
So is it any good- 100% recommend this bit of kit, its very well made but needs a bit of tuning to get the best out of it.
Could I improve the design- Yes, the mounting to the std screen could be profiled and the Extension screen could be bonded to the clamp (You will see why if you buy one, its a bit fiddly)

touring screen for an F800GS

Any recommendations on good screens and where to buy em.

I am not particularly precious about it having to be a BMW screen just a strong and effective performer preferably without the big bucks attached.

Cheers

I'm tempted, but 600 quid!!

Anyone got one?

F650GS Puma has one!

Givi high-screen is what I went for, might of actually been puma that inspired me, what are the odds..

Mine came with black piping around out-side edge...think it was from germany?, memory fading!! Cost around £80

What did you think of your Givi High Screen?

Ghost bikes currently have these up at £68....

Worth it?

I have the Wunderlich Ergo screen. Just fitted it last week. I am 6'2" and it keeps the wind off my body, making it better for touring. Only problem is I get loud drumming noise on my Arai Tour X3. Temporary fix was to remove the peak. Now the ride is peacefully, (although now blinded by the sun) or will be when I get my moulded silicone ear plugs. The screen wobbles a hell of a lot and I think that goes some way to causing the drumming. It fits so close to the headlamp that there is very little air getting under and behind the screen to compensate for the amount coming over it. I am working on a cure but am loath to start grinding bits off it.

I have one of these for sale - just haven't advertised it yet... :blast

It kept a lot of the wind off me when I had it fitted - now removed as I'm about to sell the bike.

No one screen suit everybody, the manufacturers don't set out to make rubbish, they just test and design for a different rider and riding style.
Before you buy a different screen buy a Wonderlich adjustable screen extension.

I tried a few screens but none worked for me, this device dose, 100% recommended.

Don't be tempted to go for the Touratech alternative, the ones I have seen are not as adjustable.

Hi Freeloader,

Which size is it?
I'll check which one I need and if the price is good I'd be interested!

Thanks!

Since I've already been asked via PM, I'll repeat my response here.

Price - I'm looking for £65 plus postage.

Looking at the website's measurements, I think my one is either the large or the XL, depending on which part of the bottom edge the height is measured from.
I measured it as 20" from the edge which sits above the main beam lamp.

I have a dark tinted Givi screen that i've not been using since a month after buying as it creates turbulence around my helmet. If your interested and you don't want Freeloaders one, let me know and we can talk wonga....
I'll also dig out the piping for the edge - i thought it looked better without.
