► Alternative screen options

Hi Rob,

I went through the stock, Wunderlich vario and then ended up with the Metal Mule / Powerbronze offering.

However by this time i had upgraded to Proguard custom earplugs (awesome now i've made my own solid 'filters') and a Shoei Qwest lid (soooo quiet)

Together the three mean i can sit at motorway speeds no issues with rain or noise.

For reference - I'm only 5'8" and have the lowered seat if that helps any.

Best of luck,

S

wonderful Wunderlich vario screen

I am a fan of my Wunderlich vario.
I am 6'5" and sit on a higher than stock seat. With all the vario stuff set on high, I can sit a realistic motorway speeds in unruffled comfort. It has turned my bike into a bit of a tourer (500 mile days!)
I had an MRA vario before this. It was certainly better than stock, and pleasantly breezy in the summer. However, come January, piss wet freezing days, it was lacking. Not rubbish, but for my height, not quite enough at times. It was also narrower.

And one other thing- I think the Wunderlich looks great!

GS800 screen.

Does ayone want one?? It's standard and a bit dusty. I had it on my 800 GS ages ago, but changed it over for an all singing and all dancing one which was higher and prevented the wind buffetting which I suffered....

£20.

Job done...

P.S.Its not marked scraped scratched or anything else. It's also JUST the screen....:type:type

Austen, hello, and sadly I dont know if it would be any taller than the standard screen on your F650. If there is anyone reading this who is in the know would they let Austen know if an 800 screen is any taller than a 650 screen.

I had the f800 fitted to me F650 extra protection and height is very small gains.

50mm ish :nenau almost hard to measure the difference

soon moved on to bigger touring jobies ahhhhhh bliss :thumb2

shorties look good and sporty and in the sun on calm days cool :thumb2

but only regretfull purchase I have made to date is that pesky screen small gain thought it was a lot bigger (but just an illusion as some peeps thought of diff between 8 and 650 :D), should have saved my money and went bigger from the off :D

Anyone got a MRA Vario screen?

I like the look of it compared to the great big high things, question is though, does it work??

I have an MRA screen, it's better than standard, but not great. I have a wunderlich Ergo screen (the adjustable one), and it's much better, but I never use it. I prefer the way the MRA looks, the wunderlich just looks too big for the bike. I'd like to try a BMW touring screen, but for now I'll stick to the MRA.

i've just won one on ebay for £75 :( Is it better than the standard low screen?? Any pics of it on your GS?

I'm at work just now, I'll put some up later, but if you have a look at the pics thread there's a few of my bike with the screen.

It is better than the standard screen, and at £75 it was a bargain, try it if you don't like it you should get your money back on it. Like I said I prefer mine than the Wunderlich.:thumb2

I got one and think they're great, never get any buffetting and a doddle to fit.

Have one one my Blackbird too and it was after having that on for a few years I decided to fit one to the GS as soon as I'd bought it.

it does look very good!!! I'm butching the 650 up at the moment, at the same time making it a little more protecting against the commuter elements!

I'm with you on needing to butch up the 650 - i think sometimes that instead of making the 800 better they made the 650 worse. In particular the decals look childish by comparison, the lack of beak, the non-existent screen... Not that i wish this to turn into a rant or anything :augie

For anyone else out there looking at the MRA option (i'm slowly going through all available screens in ascending order by cost) you can buy a clip on (ie no drilling of OEM screen) MRA spoiler for about £50. Or if you want to try making your own wing for the spoiler you can buy just the hinges for £25 - £30.

Will be buying and posting pics if my latest creation doesn't work tomorrow...

My brother in law Came round the other day with one on his Tiger 8 he is a happy chappy now, complained before about noise around his lid and now its gone :D to the extent he says he no longer need ear plugs.

It took me 4 screens to get the one I have. Personaly I like a tall screen, for reducing turbulence I think it has to have the slot, hole, two peice, spoiler, air blade, thingy to reduce and make a difference (and so do the designers)

there are cheaper screens yes but when you butch up :blast one must be carefull not to end up Pat Butcher'd  :D :toungincheek

But I realise its a personal individual thing and you never know until you have first hand experienced it, screen it with your own eyes so to speak :nod

Madstad screen - anyone got one?

I'm not holding out too much hope of anyone having one as the all the posts for them seem to be on the other side of the pond. However if anyone does...

Where is the quiet spot? I've been adjusting it all weekend and have yet to find it.

On an aside it's a pretty cool setup (though it should come with a long, ball tip allen key instead of a poxy 10 cm jobby that makes things fiddly - required for aforementioned adjustments) and is quite nicely put together. If i do get it working i'll do a full post on it.
