► Bashplates, crash bars and other protection

yes, i'm dumping my givi crash bars for that very reason. i'm hoping wonky's come with light mount possibilities on them. do you have any inside knowledge on whether this is true?

I did mention light mounting ability to Wonky but to be fair we had both had a fair few beers and it was 2am :beerjug:. I was impressed on his detailed knowledge of the tolerances involved in getting the cross bar to line up. My impression of Adventure-Spec is they will only make something if they can do it really well. If they can't do it well then they wont attempt it. I think we can expect a quality product that will compliment the bash plate very nicely :thumb

Why? Did you drop the bike and you are not happy with them?
I was sure Givi bars would not allow the plastic around the radiator to touch the lever ground. The bike should stand on Givi and handlebar in that case.
And Givis seem to protect the legs/feet of a rider, which is more important than piece of plastic, imho.

yes, i dropped it off-road (not at speed) and the fairing took it. givi's work in a power slide on an even surface, but off-road, they'll not work as well as wonky's SOON TO BE offering! ;);)

Crash Bars

Have to say I am liking wonkys crash bars and bash plate even though the South African ones look great too. So, Mr Wonky sir, when will they be available and are you going to do a package deal of 'protection' ie the bash plate and bar combo ?
At least then we can count down the days, plus an update on progress in pictures would be great (please) :thumb2

Uprising

I have started an uprising...sorry Wonky :)

Hey all take a look at this posting on ADV rider regarding this. I understand where he is coming from. All I can do is sit here and drool. I will fight all who approach the crash bars :mcgun

Good point, but i dont want to create a pre-order list until we have pricing worked out if that makes sense. Basically if i do a list and then the pricing comes out quite expensive i think we'll have a 'you only charge that much as everybody says they want them' situation.

We're waiting on quotes from the pipe-bending contractor. As Dave mentioned above we have found a really top-notch company who have done amazing prototypes, but have yet to give us a quote for volume(or even for one-offs). Also we need to do a few sets to find out how much time is in each. On top of this the fitting kits we're putting together are looking to be quite expensive, as they're all stainless fasteners and machined Ali spacers. For example one of the main M10 flanged top frame bolts in stainless is looking like costing us $5.

So I will start a pre-order list as soon as we have an accurate price. First batch will probably be 25, so i wouldnt worry too much about availability.

Has anyone fitted the TT centerstand skid plate??

I'd love to see how it works with various main skid plates, especially the factory skid plate. Does it fit flush covering the cat or is there still a gap?

TT Spoiler for air outlet

Has anyone fitted this. Curious if its any good or just cosmetic

just finish...

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this crash bar?

Well, I guess it's "protection". Here's the Gezagear cover I just bought:

Not cheap and I got 'stung' for VAT and Import Duty on it too but seems to be very well made and will hopefully protect the bike from the worst of the weather.

Yup. Those tyres need a lot of protection.

It did turn out to be a very expensive buy but it does the job for me.

What are the particulars of the cover - upper half , 3/4 cover ... what size ... which fabric level did you go with? Does the one you have cover the hard bags? I am looking into getting one for my bike. Are you happy so far?

I think it looks interesting and maybe pretty good. However, I also note that there are no fixings to the front of the engine block, unlike the SW Motech bars - but which in my case did not fit my bike!

Holan bars - no front fixing

SW Motech front fixing

I think a front fixing would provide extra strength in an important way. The Holan bars as they are shown would appear to allow the whole assembly to bend the fixings at each side in a drop situation whereas the front fixings being both an extra point of fixture and also better placed from a leverage point of view would seem to resist bending better.

BUT..

This was how the holes on the front fixing lined up with my engine block.

I sent these back and am now undecided what bars to get, I plan to wait and see until early Spring next year when I get going on the rough stuff again.

Crash Bars and GiT bashplate

Have just received and fitted the excellent GiT bashplate tonight after a two day wait (thanks for ther speedy delivery wonky). My question is, do any crash bars that cover the plastics fit with this bashplate or are we awaiting the adventure-spec bars ?

Glad you're happy with it!

As far as we know, from looking at a load of pictures and a few folk telling us, none of the other available bars will fit with the bashplate without considerable modifications(hence the lengthy project we embarked upon to make our own!)

We're nearly there, should have some definative answers to all Adventure-Spec Crashbar related problems/availability/pricing very soon........:thumb2

Is it not just a matter of cutting a piece of the bash plate away where it fouls with the engine bar? I am worried about this as I have my Adv-Spec plate on and my Givi bars are arriving next week!

Looking at these 2 pics you wouldn't have to remove that much material from the GIT plate for the bar to fit:

Final Test fit of Adventure-Spec Bars and Pricing.....

Hello people,
Its been a long while (sorry:blast) but we're at the final hurdle and will start a production run next week. We've been testing raw bars for a while(by a Purple Helmet no less!), but have a couple of sets to production tolerances and they fit bang-on. They've also been powdercoated and have the finalised fasteners, therefore I now know what they cost us and can tell you that they'll cost you £179.95 inc. VAT!:thumb
The only thing that will change from the photos you see below is that the crossbar brackets and mounting plates are to be cut down in size to follow the shape of the tubing. I'll post a full specification soon, all materials, fastenings and finish are TOP quality. The silver sumpguard in the pictures is a pre-production one, the production ones dont have the little strip between the two bolts on the front.
We can now export outside the EU without charging the VAT, so for you American folks i have a complete price including shipping at todays exchange rate. A black powdercoated sumpguard and a set of crashbars will be $550 delivered! A set of crashbars on there own will be $330 delivered(give or take a few of dollars). :beerjug:
Anyway have a peek at the pictures below. I'll get the bars on the website for order early next week. Delivery will be within four weeks, unless theres a really large number of orders in which case i'll make sure everyone knows when theres will come.
There are incredibly strong.

At last some bars that look the business! :oonyack

One question for a mechanical idiot like myself (have helped the wife fit a set of SW Motech panniers on her transalp): How easy are these going to be to fit?

Thanks

Adv-spec sump guard /engine bars for F650GS?

Hi

I really like the look of the Adv-spec sump guard and engine bars for the F800GS. Will these fit the F650GS (800)? If so, I'll be ordering the bars once they're on the web site (plus the guard). If not, any plans for F650GS versions?

Ta!

Another thank you from Seattle

Thanks for the update Chris.

All registered and ready. Thanks for working hard!

Likewise. I have been following this thread for ages, decided today I had to join up with the UKGSer forum to at least say thanks. I cancelled my order for Givi bars, will be looking forward to ordering a set of these as soon as they are available. Great job.

BTW, I'm obviously not a UKGSer...but someday I'd like to get back to see the stone cottage my grandfather built in Kemnay (near Aberdeen)....
