gutting out the exhaust
yesterday i traded in the 800GS temporarily...for this cub90. it hadn't been started for 14 months and fired up on the first kick. incredible little things.
i rode it from comber to coleraine on it, and it was hard work, not to mention the laughs i got with enduro gear and a Tour X helmet.
Anyway, the reason being I was out with a mate yesterday on his 1200 and was impressed by his exhaust. he was running everything stock but had cut out the cat and opened up the can, ripped all the crap out of it, put a straight through pipe in it, and it sounded really sweet without being over done like some of the straight through systems. anyway, his TIG welding was like a factory job, so i left him with my bike and borrowed one of his cub's for a week or two. the point is, i'm wondering if anyone has opened the standard can on the 800 and if anyone knows of any immediate downside to clearing out the baffles etc in it? i've been thinking about an akra that a friend is selling, but figure at the moment that it's more money than i want to part with. in thinking about it, i am actually coming to the conclusion that the more industrial looking stock effort is more in keeping with the bike (it's obvious downside to the akra is the weight as there's no real power advantage). it sounds good at the moment, but i think this might just help and the real bonus being that it'll free up a few more horses. any advice before i butcher my baby would be appreciated.
ps., i'm not worried about re-sale etc because i'll ride this bike into the ground...(as indeed someone caught me doing on a video in kesh - before the jokers weigh in)
