► Hand Guards, handlebars, risers and levers

oblertone - did you try these levers?

I need something adjustable on my 650 - the reach is too long for my little hands.

for me it was eighter fix it or get an other ride.
Today I went to the local sporting goods store and bought 4 boxes of B.B lead balls(4.5mm diam)
Took the handlebar partely of the bike, filled the whole inside of the handlebars with lead balls to get some weight to minimize the high frequency vibrations around 4000-4300 rpm mark.(85-95km\hr) which is where i have it most times.

It worked perfectly, even the mirrors are "dead" at least a 90% improvment.

weight increase approx 1\2kg.

excuse what might seem a silly question! But what stops the balls vibrating and making a wee racket?

Word to the wise - vibration is definitely worse when you've fitted BMW handguards!

This entails removing the heavy bar ends and replacing them with the much lighter handguard ends.
The lead/sand trick sounds good but I'd like to know if there is a product or a way of refixing the handlebar ends to overcome the hand guard issue??

Trick is to pack them in close but lead is soft so it doesn't resonate...

where exactly did you put the shot? any pictures? I would like to do the same thing.

Need to remove the handlebar, remove a bar end weight, hold it vertical & pour said lead balls in whilst tapping gently....:nenau

Or... lay the bike on its side :)

Genius...:blast

Your right about how to get it done,in hindsite the smaller the leadballs the better,I tried to get shootguns balls number 6,but due to ban on shootgun shells with leadballs, not aviable in Norway due to polution of enviorment I had to go for the bb balls.

How many pellets did you purchase? Was that 4 packs of 600? or 1500.

hi

4 box of 500,still have some left,you need approx to fill 2.5 -3 dm3
I would like to get a resin to "glue" the balls solid inside, was thinking about some epoxy stuff, but not shure, needs to be same or equal viscosity as water,to penetrate befor the hardning starts, any clue of what to get?

cheers

Funny I don't have that problem on mine, I've got the guards fitted but I figure it's because the 650 has a steel handlebar instead of the aluminium one on the 800.

My TT handguards arrived today for my 650 :) - the instructions are as clear as mud though

The only bit I don't like is they fit really close to the wiring and the brake fluid pipe - not much room. Hope its ok.

I had the exact same experience. The photo of all the components is so small that you cant identify them. They also are not labelled and they throw in spares of a different type. It is pure guesswork. My setup is identical to yours and the right guard is a smidge low because it is crashing into the cables. I tried mounting the attachment upside down on the handlebar which allowed me to clear the cables but it then made the Touratech writing slope downwards and it just didn't look right so I reverted to the original setup.

The backs of my hands feel some draught but my fingertips are well out of the breeze.

I think it's a bit squished about here???

Those cables are in the wrong place Fruitcake, they shouldn't be caught up between the bracket and brake hose fitting like that.

I fitted my TT handguards this afternoon after reading this thread and seeing your photos and I can see what you've done because I nearly did it myself but after playing around with it I found it was better like this.

If you postion the bracket just behind the brake hose fitting and push the cables down once the bracket has been done up those cables will just sit in front with no risk of catching, wearing etc.

The LHS gaurd was much easier to fit but then I had to line them both up as its easy to slightly twist the handguards making them look a bit sqewiff. Once on though they look really nice :)

I totally agree too about the CRAP instructions, what muppet put those together! Some shitty photocopy with tiny pictures and not even a parts list...thanks! :blast

I have the Touratech Handguards and they vibrate like crazy. For me it vibrates around 60/70mph which is annoying. I'm on the lookout for lead BB balls.

I happen to have a load of lead shot (No.6), but you'd have to collect from London. I would guess its about 1.5kg required to fill the bars. Or have a nosey at your local gun shop, they will sell lead shot of various sizes for making shotgun cartridges.

I'm down your way on the 30th. I'm riding to Austria and so a pick up of some lead weight en-route might do the trick. Of course I'll have numb hands by then. :clap

In the meantime I might see if I can find some gun shops up here in Gunchester. :mcgun

Apparently so. There are other threads on the forum about this. The shot they use for BB guns. I cant remember if it is 4mm or 6mm. I'm hoping to take a bar end off and pour it in as the bike is tipped on its side. Should save me having to take the handlebars off. The lead is a good absorber and should change the frequency of the handlebar thus moving the point at which it vibrates. Well that's the plan anyway :thumb

do you have a link to some website with them things, not quite sure what that is, how do I find the other threads? (new at this forum)

ZZ10 do a search for 'solution for handlebar vibration'

Fishburger came up with this fix (post #10 in the above thread) see below if you still cant find it :- :bounce1
