► Hand Guards, handlebars, risers and levers

If the SignalMinder is just to cancel the turn-signal blinkers I don't think you need it ... at least in USA models this is a standard feature. The turn blinker gets canceled after a variable amount of time based on the bike's speed......

I could be missing something ... :o

Jim

There's also a timer on my euro-spec F800GS indicators, but this doesn't work well when

a) there's a need to cancel the indicator fast before next exit or straight to avoid signalling a planned turn when you actually go straight ahead etc.

b) I pass a long caravan of slow moving cages for more than 20 secs. - i.e. the darn indicator switches off and requires reactivation

Anyway, for me it's a liability to struggle with this daft BMW 3-button switch setup for several thousand km's while adapting from my 30 years+ left-thumb-only indicator switch usage on other motorcycles.:blast

I find the F650 Dakar 1-switch indicator system far safer in that respect after having used it four winter seasons in snowy conditions with thick mittens and handlebar muffs. The BMW 3-button setup severly disturbs my throttle control for too long before I adapt - and I find this too risky. What irritates me is that the BMW setup makes me a more vulnerable motorcyclist in this adaptation period. The first week I was sent out of roundabouts too fast and into opposite lanes twice before I mastered it adequately. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic...

At the end of the day this system irritates the hell out of me since it actually adds to my on-the-road hazards. As if a motorcyclist doesn't have enough of those from before.:mcgun

Yes, I know it's been around for 25 years since the K-series came, but that doesn't make it an ergonomic success in my book. YMMV :beerjug:

BMW handguard spoilers

Was lucky enough to get some BMW handguards from my dealer, the one and only set they had in:aidan
Like the first post by wizard, they are very small but look well rugged. So, can anyone tell me how much the spoilers are, where can i get them from and can you fit them on your own ???? :thumb2

Hi Bradders, as I understand it the spoilers can only be fitted to the large size handguards, mine cost about £14 and my BMW dealer got them....eventually. They were very easy to fit a couple of screws and a hole to drill.

If you don't want to wait six months for the spoilers from your BMW dealer, try www.motorworks.co.uk.

They only fit to the large handguards though. Will cost about £18 posted

barkbusters hardguards

I have noticed that some online retailers sell barkbuster as compatiable with the 800gs.
"Barkbuster VPS" if i am correct.

Anyone got them? OR is it "Barkbuster VPS ?B1?" a derivation of them??

I question this as i can buy them for $99AUD but more expensive online from non-australian site (generally not this way)

HANDGUARD FITTING

I fitted the BMW handguards (large) no problems, however iI thought that having to buy 2 handle bar bolts at almost £7 was a bit rich, as the bolts that came out are identical !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the only thing different that I could see was the small amount of threadlock on them, the guards are well made, but any savings are well worth it

Barkbusters.......

At Intermot at the moment and have had a good look at these guards. They're good, will be stocking them soon!

Bugger.., i thought this was going to be an update on the crashbars! :(

pegs

how about pegs then...do the stock pegs fit in the pillion position? I want to upgrade both for the price of one set of fastways

Not sure if i should be posting this here, :o but if anyone is in need of a set of spoilers for their original BMW handguards, i have a spare set available for sale.

Check out the for sale section.

Which are larger??

Which offer the most wind protection...the Tourtech or BMW hand guards?

Thanks for your help.
Mr. Pete-->

I don't notice much wind protection from the bmw one's... the tt look like they offer more wind protection, but I have the bmw ones. I like their look and the fact that there's an iron bar protecting the levers/ grips and accelarator. :-)
