► Hand Guards, handlebars, risers and levers

I only noticed the play when tightening them with spanners. They give a better riding position and I think better turn in too (feels more supermoto than trailie, if you know what I mean) but no noticable play when riding.

Bob - getting a rise out of my bike

With regards to using the 1200GS handguards, am I looking at pre or post 2008 ones? Are there any differences between the two?

The 2008/9 mount onto the bar end and clamp onto the handlebar, where i believe the ones prior to 2008 mount onto bar end and the mirror or break resevoir. You can see there are no clamps on this 2007 GS. So order the 2008/2009 ones. You can also get the larger deflectors which coordinate in black http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Thanks for that. My delicate hands missed some protection last weekend despite heated grips. I will persist in wearing summer gloves!

What is the going rate for the OEM F800GS Hand Guards and Plastic bits. I have been quoted £184 by Park Lane, London, £96 by BMW Bristol and £46 by BMW in Stroud. The price differences seem huge.

I got my set of the 1200GS handguards from Motorworks for £75. Had a badly forged handlebar screw and it was replaced quickly. They don't have the metal bar of the F800GS ones, but offer more protection IMO. I was a little 'shy' on tightening (see previous post where the bike was 2 days and 121 miles ond - now a month and 1500 miles

), but a little perseverance ment the clamps tightened up nicely.

I also got the extensions, part# l/h: HAE05221 and r/h: HAE05222
- these are only listed in the 2nd hand section where they are unavailable, but are available new. The black work's better with the bumble bee scheme and also allowed me to add some black reflective material which shows up at night.

I certainly wouldn't want that metal tubing of the BMW ones folding and bending in an accident and crushing my fingers

:beerjug:

I can personally vouch that the BM metal handguards won't bend from a head-on with a homicidal van driver  Definitely saved me from a smashed hand and possible broken arm. The bars bend before the hand protectors deform.

BMW Handguard Question Please

Hi,

My supplying dealer fitted a pair of BMW handguards to my 800GS, but I find the deflectors sit quite low.

I understand that you can get some entensions to the standard guards to provide more protection (thinking wind), but are these added to the existing ones or do you have to buy all new?

If added to, any idea of cost?

Thanks

Just a quick post about Touratech 20mm bar risers.

Recently installed a pair before we rode to the Isle of Mull from Cardiff on the bikes and gotta say they made a HUGE difference.
Before we went i would be getting bad back pains after about 30min riding and was leaving me a bit disappointed with the bike. Now its no problem at all, did 9 hours (360miles) in the saddle and no complaints what so ever. The bike now seems to Fit my body alot better and have a feeling i was kinda crouched over trying to reach the bars before hand.

Wookie

PS Im just under 6ft tall and around 15 st.

Need hand guards that don't extend furthet than H-Bars

Dear all.

Slight problem here, to which I would ask your help please?
I've a F800GS 09, which will only just fit thru my gate, with about 1mm each side and the side path is no wider to the rear of my home. (DOH!!):tears

I would like to get some hand guards, but as there are so many on the market, I really don't know which to get and have no time to go and see / shop for.

So if anyone of you can help, I'd really appreciate it please.

Thank you:thumb

Check out the OE Stainless and plastic guards. I think they are incorperated in the bar end weights, so would not be any wider than the bike is now.

get a bigger gate :bounce1

Cut your handlebars down the corresponding amount. Don't forget to take an equal amount off each side though. :augie

BMW handguards

Whilst they attach in place of the standard bar weights, be aware that the BMW guards actually fan outwards. On my 650 GS the maximum width across the hanguards is around 915 mm compared with about 845 mm across the bar ends.
