its a Trax system like i said before i like the pannier rails cause you can take them of in a few seconds but i hate the trax panniers i just wish ard cases could be adapted to fit the trax pannier rail system

I've got the Trax panniers... they leak like sieves, even after a judicial application of silicone sealer

They're four bloody inches wider than the BM's

The rails can be removed in seconds, so to stop anyone nicking them along with the panniers they supplied a lockable oversize Zuz fastner :thumb2

Except a pair of fine nose mole grips will undo the lockable fastener in a second

:beerjug:

Well I am planning a trip to Europe, and as a geek, it is important that I have no less than a thousand gadgets (DSLR, Netbook, iPhone etc etc etc), so rather than squashing them in the panniers your solution would be better.

Thanks Micky :) My shopping list has once again grown :D

Here to help

why not try the alpos cases and maybe get them powder coated, they come with the fitting kit for the sw-motech rack, and at under £100 a box:JB

funny that Micky but my ones leak as well at the moment they will have to do

Anyone have good guidance on how large i shoudl go for? At the moment, i'm thinking i should get a set of 31l/38l, like the MM standard size?

I've toured for years with Givi luggage: two side cases at 38L and a 45L top box.

Always camped, so the top box was for the food / cooking / camping stuff. I find 38 litres plenty of space for personal clothing, wash kit and towel, plus sleeping bag. Air bed went on top of top case, with tent poles rolled in it.:thumb

Yea Dave you might be right, I am still researching how I am going to do it, obviously a tank bag would be ok for a phone, mp3 player etc, but not a DSLR and laptop, but I will look regardless :)

One more question Micky, can you describe a bit more as to how you wired the box up for power? Many thanks :)

I still have a tank bag, never go anywhere without it. Always a camera in there, visor cleaning, 'phone' etc. iPod also in tank bag, the Wunderlich has a likkle waterproof exit for the cable :thumb
iPod remote in the top clear panel ... life on the open road is sweet :thumb

I have a Centech unit next to the battery for all things extra :thumb

Just run a wire down the length of the bike, nicely tucked away, under the seat and then up through the floor of the Peli case through a grommet... hey presto... sorted :thumb

Connector under rear storage of seat so that the case can be removed if needed :thumb

The 12v terminates in a car type 12v cig lighter that sits inside the peli case. Most phone chargers, ipod and my Netbook charger all have the car type 12v plug ... sorted :)

Does anyone have any info on the pannier rails needed to fit the GSA ali panniers on the GS800.

I have both bikes and being able to use the same luggage will be more cost effective.

thanks

SW Motech rack?

Hi

Been following this thread for a long time and am now thinking of putting the SW Motech rack + Alpos cases on my new 650. Can anyone tell me whether it would be possible to remove the racks while the cases are installed? I'm thinking about whether the setup is secure :nenau.

Thanks

I recently fitted some trax panniers, left pannier had a puddle in the bottom after some heavy rain, clear silicone on seams inside and out. After a couple of hours of glorious british summertime rain yesterday the silicone seems to have solved the problem. I considered sending them back but couldnt be bothered with the hassle. I bought them from Nippy Normans, I phoned to see if this was a common problem and apparently it was not.

I did notice from item description they were not described as waterproof, I guess I just assumed they would be.

i have sw motech with alpos. first off, bykebitz (gareth in particular) are the best folks to buy from them. their aftersales is second to none. secondly, if you buy the locks for the racks, it's not possible to remove them. i didn't fit them but will if doing a long trip through dodgy places. it's a good set up and at a great price. you'll not go wrong. my cases are powdercoated and are waterproof.

hey there Jimmy, have you thought about rubberising the inside of your cases like they do on the back of some 4x4 vehicles? :augie

Hey Peter.... six months time there'll be some Trax panniers and frames going cheap

One careful owner, never raced or rally'd, but they will come with genuinely aquired patina

Spray on rubber

Never even considered it, is it expensive?

Jimmy

Well it was not that expensive when i used it in South Africa, but it had to be sprayed out of a special air gun :blast. just done a quick search on google and came up with this :type. It might do the trick and various colours to choose from as well. There is most probably other similar products on the market

That looks good and at a tenner a can I might even give it a go.
