hey there Jimmy, have you thought about rubberising the inside of your cases like they do on the back of some 4x4 vehicles? :augie

If you think the water's getting in through the seams, would it not be better to rubberise the outside of the cases - or at least, along all the seams? Otherwise the water will still be collecting in the seams and possibly storing up problems for later, more so in the winter when salt spray is liable to be involved.

Of course, I could be talking bollox, but it might be worth considering. Although it might make them look a bit odd...

might not look too bad as you do get a clear spray as well

twalcom exhaust and balanced pannier rack?

Does anyone have a Twalcom exhaust fitted?

And further, are you able to install balanced pannier racks (metal Mule or similar) with this exhaust?

Fitted a set of ARDCases. :thumb2
Pleased so far and will get used on my trip to the Apls in a couple of weeks.

- the only problem is that the pannier rails, where the mount joins the pillion's pegs does not leave any room to allow me to deploy the center stand. :blast

For bike to bike I'm sure it will be just fine, out of interest what radio is it? I use motorola cp040 with a helmet headset and a ptt on my index finger the radio is in my jacket, it works very well and I have turned the out put down on the radio to 1watt

Hi at one time Trax cases were made by hand and they were waterproof, now they make them with a robot and now they let water in. I was going to get them but I changed my mind and now have BMW Vario and they are good. barrie

Krauser K5

Just fitted a new Krauser K5 to my F800GS .

I spent quite a while deciding on which box to go for. So many options. In the end I decided that I wanted the space of a vinyl box over the more bike-appropriate looks of a squared off adventure style case. The Krauser K5 was the best of the non-adventure type IMO. Fits 2 medium shoei XR1000s without bother, yet looks smaller than the Givi V46 from the outside. Magic. The fitting system has been changed from their old K-Wing system to a new "Alu-Rack" . This fits nice and snug, and matches the bike quite well, as does the box itself.

Rack only:

The pics don't really do it justice, I think it looks better than this in the flesh. The colours match well, and the "curved yet angular" look of the silver inset also matches.

Fitting was straightforward, though the instructions did contain some lies. I think the recent change to the design hasn't fully filtered down to the pictures in the instructions.

I bought it from touringbiker . No idea if they were the cheapest, but the woman on the phone was very helpful and good to deal with.

Overall, quite pleased. Though I'll have to report back after a winter's commuting worth of road testing.

Hello everybody

In my "quest" of finding which kind of panniers would fit me, I came across this thought.
Buy the OEM stock rack for Bmw alu panniers.
I like them 'cause it looks small on the bike, not wide I mean.
I could go after for some Ortielb soft panniers if I want to, or get some other brand...

Is it a good plan and will other than bmw "hard panniers" will fit on these rack?
I'm also looking for a frame that will protect my / foot legs in case of a "slow crash"

Thank you for your inputs
Cheers
Bernard

i'm answering myself...
No it's not a good idea, the oem rack hasn't enough clearance with the stock exhaust for soft luggage.
So better go for the full kit or try to find something else.

As for the foot / leg protection I'm still looking. Will the Adventure Spec crash bars will do that job

Cheers

Not sure about pannier rails but i have a set of AS bars and they are great. I had a London taxi side swipe me last month (bit of luck on my side as it was the bonnet area) and collided with the AS bar rather than my leg. Kept it upright through it all plus no damage done to the bike. Also, have a look at this;

Thanks for your input :)
I have seen the post you have linked before and I am perfectly sure that the AS bars did their job.

Just had a off last week on soft ground which caused me torn ligament and distortion of the ankle.
The hand protection worked perfect for the front part of the bike, but the passenger foot rest went deep in the sand thus ...

Just wonder if the AS bars would have help avoiding this
Anyhow, they are next on my wish list

Cheers

The bars will protect the front of the bike but some part of the rear of the bike still has to make contact with the ground and that is always the rear foot peg. I don't mind this as it protects the fuel tank. That said, that poor old foot peg really does come in for some abuse. I cracked the plastic on mine and needed some superglue to repair it :blast

As for the SW Motech Panniers. They leak like crazy! All four corners leak :tears

I thought this might be interesting to peeps considering Luggage I'm using the vario top box, which adjusts down for slim line looks and expands easily to take a Full face Lid.

The panniers are Jesse Luggage black powder coated Alu; I think the unique feature is there on a cam that easily adjusts back and forth giving more room to pillion or more balance to solo as seen in there Webb shots bottom of this link:

I like the black with the black engine, they sit close to the bike 990mm wide which is 10mm each side beyond my mirror width (TT morror extenders fitted)
if my mirrors don't fit through a gap its a good indication for filtering! Ive ridden in torential rain with zero leaks:thumb
