I'll be paying £285 through BM when my bike finally arrives. I considered a 1200, but the insurance would jump to £1400!

The £285 is the "special scheme" price for the F800GS and is the same for all F800 bikes.

They won't budge because it's a special rate fixed by BMW. I had issues getting that rate, partly because of an endorsement on my license, the best they could do was £330, for my age, postcode, lack of garage and the endorsement I'm just glad it's under a grand.

Jolyon.

The BMW insurance scheme for the 800GS is a god send for those of us in London without a garage etc.

When I was looking for a quote (pre-release) most companies wouldn't even quote for me. The best I could find was £1400

So was quite glad to hand over £285 for Comp...

f800 gs Insurance

Hi,

I have taken the plunge and will be picking up a new 800GS :bounce1 in a couple of weeks time, rang BMW insurance today to change my policy from a 1150GSA and the price has gone up, I understand the value has increased but they stated the bike was a higher risk due to being classified as a enduro bike.

I will search around when the policy ends.

Anybody had the same experience?

looking forward to clocking up some miles on the new un.

Thanks

I've had a 2 bike policy with Norwich Union for years. When I swaped the GSX-R 1000 for the F800GS the price went up:eek

I now have seperate Equity Red Star insurane for each bike at about 1/2 the Norwich union quote.

I found lots of internet quotes for arround £150 - £200 fully comp for the F800GS.

:topic Just wondered if you were selling your GSA or are you p/ex it?

On the subject of insurance, I used to prefer the BMW insurance as it was free and less hassle insuring a courtesy bike or has that changed now?

Im with BMW for my 800GS. A lot more expensive than my 1150GS was. Looked more closely at my insurance docs. and found that 800GS is shown as being Group 99 !!!!!!
Hopefully that will be amended by renewal time.

Well I live in London with no claims bonus at the moment (Last three policies only ran 11 months each) - the fixed-price £285 Comp from BMW was not possible to beat.

Feckin' fixed price BMW insurance...

I was also quoted £285  for my 800GS by BMW Insurance, but since I live out in the sticks, I'm 53, and this was a noticeable increase over my R1200GS, wasn't impressed by this. I queried the high price with the rep when I phoned them, and was told it was because it was a new model... ...wasn't impressed by their attitude (but then I rarely am when speaking to insurance companies).

Ebike, OTOH, were happy to insure me for £134 (only one year NCB). Not a difficult decision, and I can cope with any hassle come courtesy bike time.:D

Does anyone have any idea how long the fixed £285 price is going to be around?

I'm in my twenties and have under a year's riding experience so it was a godsend for me. My concern is that come next July when I need to renew that deal will be long gone and I'm going to be looking at £1000+ (best quote I got from a regualar insurance co was £1400). Hopefully having a full year under my belt and fingers crossed 1 years NCB should help a bit if I do have to go shopping.

AFAIK, they are still doing the same deal on the 800S/T, and they've been around a few years. I got the impression its not so much a "new model" deal but a "new to BMW & Biking" deal. They don't do 0% finance, they rarely discount much...this is about the only incentive (to higher risk people) to switch to BMW.

Yep, they said £285 for me who live in London with 2yrs no claims and also £285 if I do it on my wife's name who has no motorcycle license at the moment but will do before the bike arrives. It definitely was one of the incentives for me getting the new 800GS. :thumb2

What security device would you recommend?

Just taken delivery of my brand new F650GS and want to know which security device anyone would recommend when the bike is parked up out and about?:nenau

Cheers
