Reading these posts really makes me mad.:(
I have to pay GBP 500 a year on insurance for my F800 GS and on top of that GBP 450 for my X-Country. No wonder everything is going to hell around here.

Insurance

Hi all. It's insurance renewal time. I've got a quote from Hastings direct that is £45 cheaper than my BMW renewal... I've never dealt with them so was wondering whether I should cough up the extra money for the peace of mind of BMW insurance?
:nenau

Just been through this, had insurance with Adelaide for IAM members but renewal very expensive. Tried www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk (you get free legal insurance just for obtaining a quote) and they came back with good quotes from h&r insurance www.hrinsurance.co.uk. I had some queries and the h&r customer service was very good, also good reviews picked up from the web.

Mentioned this to Adelaide who cut £100 from renewal quote :clap, so stayed with them as it was 'easier'. Hope this helps.

The broker managed to convince the underwriter to match my best quote from Hastings so I'm quite happy - just goes to show, always worth haggling!

I personally found the "BMW Insurance" quote the best by a long shot (run by Devitt I believe).

Quotes for a my F800GS ranged from £2500 to £600 fully comp. BMW insurance quoted me £285 with a free additional rider. Very happy customer! Thanks to Vines in Guildford for the suggestion. :thumb2

Insurance

We could do with an insurance forum!

My insurance is up for renewal and was considering "third party fire and theft" this time. My thinking is that "fully comp" is a little wasted on a bike in that small repairs will be in your insurance excess and big repairs... well the bike will be the last of your worries. May be this view is a little naive :augie

What insurance company is good value right now?

I do a lot of adventure riding, so need green cards etc.

Any recommendations?

I'm using 'BMW Motorrad Insurance' (underwritten by NIG), got a good premium with them. Give them a call for a quote although i am not to sure about the "green cards". Try anyway; you may crack a good deal. They also cover the bike for 90 days in the EU and the policy holder is covered to ride any other motorcycle (with 3rd party cover though).

Their number; 0845 300 4504

+1 For BMW cheapest for me, always been helpful..

I use to go direct to NIG but to allow me to take the 800gs from the dealer I needed insurance quickly and BMW Motorrad was easiest and then I see it is actually a NIG policy! The slightly higher cost of the BMW policy [about £25] seemed to be the additional cover for clothing and helmet.

Unfortunately I had a claim on my last bike on the NIG policy and the service was excellent - £3k of damage on a bike worth £3.5k! I cliamed for a new helmet, clothing, gloves and boots from my house contents policy - check your policy it may cover this and save you a few quid. Also if you are in the RAC they will pick and take accident damage bikers to nearest repariers.

Hi,
I am just curious and all of this is pretty new to me, but does the BWM insurance includes emergency roadside assistance ?
Or if you need/want roadside assistance, on top of the bmw insurance you need to had something like RAC assistance ?
Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben

I have insurance with BMW and to be honest i'm not sure because in the showroom they went on about how the BMW warranty gives you emergency roadside assistance i didnt think to ask!

All i can find on the Motorrad website for the Insurance is...

"Up to two years introductory No-Claims Discount for new riders.
Cover for EU countries when you travel abroad on your motorcycle. †
A second rider insured free of charge. ††
Additional BMW motorcycles insured at a flat rate of £10.50 per motorcycle. †††
Free 2-day comprehensive cover for test rides arranged with BMW Authorised Dealers. ††††
Personal possessions (e.g. helmet and riding suit) covered for accidental damage and theft up to £1000.
Restrictive mileage discount of up to 20%.
5% reduction if your BMW motorcycle is kept in a garage.
Cover for exclusive BMW arranged track events."

But if you look on the BMW Motorrad Insured or extended Warranty.

"BMW Motorrad Insured Warranty protects against mechanical and electrical breakdown for a wide range of specified components of your BMW bike.

Features and benefits of the policy include:

Cover against defect for specific mechanical and electrical components of your bike.
You can arrange cover either online or by phone.
Option to include BMW Insured Emergency Service.
Choice of annual or monthly cover.
Flexible payment options.
Choice of excess payment levels - £0, £50 or £100.
Maximum claim limit is the purchase price paid for the bike, inclusive of VAT
Available for BMW Bikes with mileage up to 80,000 miles (at time of purchasing the warranty"

it gives you the option to use there Emergency Service!

Hope thats some help

Matt

Hi Matt,
This is actually where I get confused. BMW provides different insurance types, the normal one and the "BMW Motorrad Insured or extended Warranty" .

Anyway i'll be in at the BMW dealer on saturday, so I'll ask the differences.

Fully Comp, £275 excess, legal cover with Ebike, 1 years no claims - £88.33. Some don't like ebike but I figured that in 30 years I have never made a claim (bike or car) so what the hell, let's give it a go. That is a stunningly low price.

Just to amuse you...
I pay just over GBP 1200 for a f800gs, XCountry and a Versys.
Never had any accidents or or any issues.
And this is a part of a much bigger deal that includes home car and god knows what. :(
