Thanks Micky, that's terrific.

Given that I have already spent a fortune on the bike (Metal Mules on order..) I think I shall try the Philips X-treme first then move to HIDs if the first step isn't enough.

One other question, after fitting the HID to the main lamps, do you need to adjust the headlight's level? I.e. point it down a bit so that it doesn't irritate on coming drivers (and cops)...

Not adjusted mine at all, they don't dazzle the car in front, never had a flash, even on the continent no one has flashed a flash of annoyance and that's without changing/masking the left dip beam pattern

Couple of times while doing 'tail end charlie' my mate up front, a mile away on one occasion, always knew where I was

In some of them thar long dark tunnels in southern Deutschland you could clearly see the sides of the road... it wuz just like bloody dayleet

Yep everything you see came as a kit even the relay and wiring loom
its a plug and go kit just one wire to splice into (yellow dip wire near the headlight) (which is a plug for the main and dip/side lights)
and two wires to connect to battery

the switch is waterproof tested on Sunday just gone for about six hours in the rain none stop

The Touratech panel looks very neat. I fitted one to my 1200GS and found it a devil of a job - even Touratech in their instructions said that loosening the screws on the frame (painted over) could be difficult; I decided I would never fit anything like that again - BUt perhaps you found this one straightforward?

Yes it was pretty straightforward. Would have been a bit easier if the spacers were the right thickness and the instructions had been in English

got the touratech instrument panel for the 800 today
fitted in 20 mins no problems
windshield of dropped headlight of removed 3 circlips
get the supplied washer in the right order of thickness

fitted every thing back together decided I didnt want
the extra aux socket so fitted my fog lamp switch into panel instead

so from this on handlebars to

p.s see the handguards just fitted on Friday afternoon

Headlights, 650GS Twin

Went out the other night, first time in the dark! Can't work out the headlamps.
Switching on the High-beam headlight the "footprint" of the illumination falls lower and within the "footprint" of the Low-beam headlamp!?
Switching back to Low-beam only, the Low-beam obviously irritated oncoming vehicles. The plastic assembly is as adjusted as per book. (my wife was riding pillion so could have been responsible for the "high" Low-beam dazzling oncoming. BUT, that only makes the High-beam setting worse (lower still).
It seems as if the wiring has been reversed, making the lights the wrong way round, but again, they light up as the book. Also, dropping into the first corner that night, the illumination receded along the road towards me reducing the light part of the road. I did stay on the road, but only just!
Can't be me, can it?
PS: great machine, but find the standard height seat only slightly softer than concrete.

touratech light kit

Hi, i live in lincolnshire, work a lot of nights, coastal foggy dark wet nights, i didn't like the night rides home.. priced up the touratech lighting kit inc brackets, £300 or therabouts, description on the website poor, anyway, ordered kit, comes with mounting brackets, 1 fog lamp, 1 spot H.I.D lamp, took me 5 hours of messing about with the sheer delight of fitting it, then it was dark...
Went out for road test, & Hell.. as someone famous once said, let there be light..
Treat yourself to a kit, Fantastic at night, & if u change ur bike just buy new brackets..

Touratech dont sell just the brackets. And for a reason.

If they did, people would source the Hella lights cheaper on ebay and just buy the brackets.

Its to protect their R&D costs of developing the brackets for each bike in the first place.

Hyper-Lites install on an F800GS

I had hyper-lite LEDs mounted within the tail-light lens of my old K75S and they worked great. Has anyone considered similar for the F800GS? Their website at http://www.hyperlites.com/ shows CAN-BUS-compatible wiring. I wonder how I would install too - clamp them to the turn signals?

Here in traffic-jammed Southern California I want to make sure braking is highly visible. Any other recommendations? Thanks.
