Had a good play with the GS911 on my 800 this morning.

There is lots of info available - seems there are a lot more electronics and sensors!

There are reports on all settings in the Engine Management, ABS, Central Electronics and Instrument Electronics.

I was told by my dealer that the software versions are on the most up to date - released only 3 weeks ago.

Engine management screenshots attached.

Warranty required service?

Hmmmmm...............

I've got the workshop DVD, and it's great :thumb

However, the service schedule states that the first thing to do is connect to the BMW computer for diagnostics and software updates. So, essentially, you cannot service the bike to BMW specifications unless you have their computer and any bike-specific upgrades. So, while you have the legal right to service the bike and still maintain the warranty, you don't actually have the tools to do so.

Of course, the way around this is to pay your dealer for the computer part and do the rest yourself...... but is it actually worth the meagre saving you will now make? And add to that the fact that and out-of-warranty "goodwill" gestures will almost certainly not be happening.......

My bike will continue to be serviced by the dealer until the warranty is up. Having just paid £80 for the 6000 mile, I don't think it's an awful lot to invest to ensure that anything that goes wrong will be sorted :thumb

Wizard & all

Where were you reading about hooking the bike to the computer?

I have my manuals now, and here in the USA I have thick "Rider's Manual - US Version" and a much thinner manual "Consumer Warranty Information..."

The Rider's manual does not have the required services or schedule in it, at least not that I can find...

The warranty manual only lists the following stuff under "Emmission Control Maint. Schedule":

Engine Oil: 600 miles then every 6000 miles
Valve clearance: every 12,000 miles
Fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs: every 24,000 miles

That's ALL it lists.

In the warranty guide it says that the owner must "perform required maint. as outlined in the owner's manual AND/OR this booklet" ....

Is there a longer list of items that are to be performed at maint. on the CD/DVD? What I'm reading seems to imply that there is very little work that MUST be done to keep the warranty in force???

Thanks,
Jim

BMW Williams in Manchester said it takes 25 minutes and consists of an oil filter change and brake fluid check.

I will also be asking them to check the stalling issue and loose headstock with a mention of the OBC. :rob

thanks, I got a notice telling me they have to change brake fluid if that is not done at first service?? is it needed to change brake fluid after 6000 miles or at the first service?

I suppose it should be "check fluid level", not change, or?

My local dealer said that they "followed BMWs recommendations" when they changed brake fluids at the 6k service. And that would be why they are almost twice the price for the first service.

Since he didn´t include the first service for free I took my business elsewhere. A couple of weeks left before she arrives...

For future times, does anyone know a place to dl the service-manual-disc?

How many tools??

So far, to complete a toolkit for normal servicing functions on my F800GS;

- "normal" socket set
- male torx set
- female torx set
- 19mm front wheel thingy
- 22mm back wheel thingy (if you really want one)

any more???? :nenau

Have you actually tried getting your wheels off with those socket sizes?

I think you'll need:

24mm socket Rear Axel
17mm socket Front Axel (plux torx for clamps)
13mm spanner for chain tension screws
No other tools required to remove the axels, they are 'quick release' and dont need a 'thingy' on the other side.

Depends on what you call "normal" servicing...would that include replacing sprokets & chain? Repairing puntures?
17mm Front Sprocket
13mm Rear Sprocket
Tyre levers/repair kit etc.

Ok brain is farting I can't think right now...

i invested in a tool roll last week and ordered all the tools needed (mix of Draper/Beta/Mac) to build an 800 never mind fix one. All told the price of the tool kit came to £100 exactly. still have to get a chain replacement kit and tyre changing materials.

Hells teeth, it would be easier to get the work done at a dealers - hey, wait a minute

this is true, but so far my fixes on the radiator hoses have been better than the 2 carried out by my dealer. i will however leave the rocker gasket to them!

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth, this is a list of stuff included in the OEM service tool kit that is offered as an optional accessory.

From my (several) tool kits I can now make up that kit - and still have 172 bits left over :thumb2
