PIRELLI SCORPION TRAILS

Had the bike just over a week now, done 550miles and all i can say is wow :thumb2 i have never had pirelli tyres on a bike before but these things seems to stick to the road like glue. I was never a knee down rider when i was on sports bikes but these tyres make me feel like i can get my elbow down:eek: anyone else experienced these yet?

Defn think im going to have a look at these. Weve put on TKC80s for testing but after 600 road miles ive got a feeling they will not last the 4k miles we need for morrocco in sept (will be putting a brand new set on before we go). Some folks say theyve got 4k miles from a TKC but i just cant see them lasting:(

Peds could you confirm the sizes and wether theyre Tubed or not please?

Struggling to find the exact matches on any of the following sites :

http://www.mynetmoto.com/

http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/

Cheers

I'm up to 7000 miles on my TKC's. Not much good for off-roading now but still usable on the road :thumb

Good tyre

I'm pleasantly surprised with my Scorpions. My previous bike had Pilot Road 2s, and the Scorpions don't seem to be significantly worse. Wet performance is really good too. The tread pattern is a bit wierd looking though- Anakees look better.

Steve, as per my previous thread, the tyres are the correct sizes, 90/90 21 and 150/70 17 with tubes. I believe the rear is a new size so not many around. I got mine online from www.bitzforbikes.co.uk in Rochdale.

me too. i'm going to have to go for anakees or trail-attacks over the summer, as the boys i ride with most of the time are fairly right hand friendly, even though i prefer tracks and trails. i couldn't hold out to new TKC's every month! the warm summer tarmac is like butter on a hot knife with TKC's.
so what should i get? anakees or trails? i've no idea about either, so let this forum arbitrate!

7000 k thats bloody good..

Whats your secret everywhere?

I am struggling to get 700 miles:augie

Bit of feed back with the conti trail attacks...

2 laps of the TT course and a blast over the gravel tops on the mountain total mileage so far 102 miles.

The front tyre gave quite a bit of feed back and with a good handful of front brake. Felt it digging in and allot of grip. V pleased

Handling was also good with the 21" front seems to roll/drop into corners without having to give it a bit more help like the Battlewings and Tkc.

Nice grip on the roads and with DRY gravel lanes there was a bit of back spinning:rolleyes: but again grippy but no Tkc and the front held nice lines too.

No rain so no gain! hope the weather stays like it is too

Better then the battlewings but thats just me:D

Price £100 for the back and £70 front.£24 for a pair of conti tubes.

OH while the back was of i found out one of me sprocket bushes was fooked!
back to the shop again:tears

The Secret??

I'd say if you want anything to last, you can beat on it like it was your children.:eek

I have about 7000 miles on my TKC's. I put them on in February and still probably have about 1000+ left on them.

So that's about 1400 miles a month. I ride every day to work and then for fun on the trails.

Here are my factors
150lbs rider
Panniers generally loaded with tools, clothes for work, computer...ect
Rear PSI 40
Front PSI 35
commuting to work average speed 60mph

I check the PSI weekly

I'll let the rear tire wear down to the wear marks before I toss it. As for the front, I'll toss it when the cupping gets too annoying.

A friend of mine got 20,000 miles out of a TKC riding from Nordkapp to Capetown.

I'm with you maddaddy. Mine were fitted in March. I commute every day a total distance of 6 miles. Average speed 45mph, PSI's the same as yours. I stay off the motorways where possible and even then dont do more than 70mph. I did the Sibirsky Extreme trip which added 5500 miles onto them. I suspect the definition of wear is a subjective.

The BMW technician in Manchester said I wouldn't make it to the Balkans. In the Balkans one of my fellow riders suggested I change them in Albania the other said I'd get another 10,000 miles out of them.

The rear tyre is becoming a road tyre in the centre but has chunky blocks on the side. The front is still good. So much so that I'm going to run a Heidenau K60 on the rear first.

This may be a contentious view (because I know there are lots of TKC fans here) but in my experience I've always found TKCs to perform better than you'd think on the road, and not as well as you'd hope off road (certainly in mud, where they clog extremely easily and become pretty slick).

:nenau

Having said that, there's no doubt that a well prepared GS with TKCs certainy looks the business..!

I agree ... having ridden on both TKCs and the Mefo / Heidenaus ... I find the Mefos are better off road on hard pack, better in sand, better in mud and slop and better wearing. They may not look as aggressive but they are much better off road and longer wearing. I am a converted fan.

But they are slippery on wet tarmac ...

I think the problem we have is the tyre pressures. Im sure last time i checked the rear was on 27psi (wasnt sure on pressures for TKCs on road so left as was).
Would make sense as well as generally a flatter tyre generates more heat and hense more wear.... guessing cruising at 85mph wont help either lol....

Still gonna look at the Mefo / Heidenaus though, they do look like a nice compromise.

Remember that the PSI is for the weight of the bike, plus rider. The PSI on the side of the tire is generic.

If you check your back cover of your manual it will prescribe the PSI for a single rider or a loaded bike.

The biggest killer of any tire is poor PSI.
