► Tyre choices and emergency repairs

Yes, got them. They look butch. :) Sadly I've only ridden them a bit, and that was in the wet, so I was just tippytoeing around. Seems fine so far.

Thanks Dean.

Very helpful.

When I checked my rear tyre pressure it was running a bit low. 0 psi! There was a bloody great screw sticking out of it. I noticed it was weaving a bit on the way home. My tyre chap reckons it might be fixable, otherwise its a new one. Annoying as it's only a couple of months old. :blast

Cheers.

Mitas E-10

The Mitas E-10 looks a bit more Karoo-ish than TKC, but it's still a bit too blocky for what I want, but thanks for the suggestion.

I've just had a Mitas E-10 fitted to the rear of my bike and just to feedback, I had a Karoo(T)2 removed from the rear and the E-10 is actually not quite as "big blocked" as the Karoo, the blocks are smaller and spaced more from each other

first impressions seem pretty good on the gravel on the farm too...:bounce1

Use one of these to beak the bead - produce 250kg of force:

I sawed about 8 inches off the shaft since it was far longer than I needed, and now it fits in my pannier easily. Cheap to, and available at most DIY shops.

What tires are these? :nenau Not fully up on my 800GS tire spotting!:blast

Got mine fitted today and I am very happy so far. They made light work of riding up (carefully) my snow covered drive (I had to push the bike with my previous road bias tyres that with me on the bike just sat there spinning).

I kept reversing down the drive and then blasting up - each time reversing a bit further down after gaining more confidence - well, i enjoyed it :thumb

I haven't pushed them (temps below freezing when I ride to work), but I'm impressed so far. They just flop into corners very nicely (something to do with the 140?), and even with the very wintery conditions they are nothing but confidence inspiring. I am very conscious of riding them in the wet but they have shown no signs of losing grip.

Kid ... the tyre has a designation M&S on the side, no, it's nothing to do with Marks and Spencer and the scantily clad gels in their christmas advertising :drool, but

MUD and SNOW allegedly... lol...

So you know these guys know their tyres and use compounds that actually work in adverse conditions.

How are they going?

How are they going now lads?
Thinking of getting a pair.
Am I right in saying that we don't know for sure the durability of the M&S scout ones versus the original k60s?
Cheers,
J

I doubt they'll be any worse or better than the original K60 ... on my present tread depth I'd say I'm good for another 2000 miles, total around 6k I guess... Mine are quite square though, one of the disadvantages of too many asphalt miles.

Only done a few hundred miles (mostly road, bit of snow, bit off road) but I love them. The conditions i've used them in so far have been pretty nasty. Mostly damp and freezing roads. I've felt the rear let go once in a corner, but very gently and soon regained grip. I dont push them in these conditions but I've found them no worse (and better) than some road biased tyres i've used in the past.

From the reviews i've read I expect at least around 10k (tourance would easily do more than that). Despite that they are only 140 section, they look wider because of the tread - they look great! :D So unless they are worn out as quickly as sport tyres (just a few k) i'll be buying more.

ordered

Just ordered mine, thanks for the info.
Should have them on in time for the Bakery off-road ride. Good times!

Fitting a 150/70 on the F658

Hi,
I just had a 150/70 Tourance EXP fitted by the dealer, no issues here in Mexico except the 140/80 wasn't available for awhile and I really needed a rear tire as the original Bridgestone was cooked at 18,000 plus kms.
My plan is to order a Tourance EXP in the OEM size for the front end 110 size.
So question is, what can I expect from the 150/70 on the back end, I have yet to scrub it in, so any advice gentlemen? Thanks as usual!
What would you recommend for tire pressure, I ride solo (weigh 110kgs 240lbs) crappy highway surfaces, usually 20 to 30centigrade ambient temps (ho ho ho how is that European winter this year)?

Puncture Repair

I have not had my F800GS long and not even had a chance to put any miles on it. This is the first bike I have had with tubes, I have usually carried a couple of tiny gas bottles and some bungs to get me out of trouble.

Can you recommend the best tools, repair kit, puncture prevention methods?

Im sure I'm about to be showered by wisdom so please bring it on.
