► Tyre choices and emergency repairs

Well on the Black Spur, HealsVille, Vic, Austalia My friend on his Suzuki GSX-R 750 could do 140km past the flashing 40km slow down sign. Assume general sports bike tyre, but i am sure the he had Mich Pilot Powers on.

Well on the 800gs with Battlewing solo 130km. Then second run with GF on the back (still Battles) 140km. They are a great road tyre. After 3 runs, 2 solo and 1x2up there was a mottled effect on the edgers of the tyre. IT IS A ROAD TYRE ONLY. have taken it 'off' (soft) road.

Now with front: Heid k60 (3000km) Rear: anakee2. Only done 1000km with anakee on the back. It is a little squirmish when leaning on tarmac, but I have not rubbed the edgers much. On the other hand, both seem to be great off road. NB: k60=great, rear: anakee2=still leaning, seems good.

looked at Conti Trail attacks on 800/1200gs bikes today. Look like a great road tyre...nuf sed.

Had them on my 1150 GSA the wobble between 15-30 mph never went away and I never felt comfortable with them. Back on torances and stabilty has returned and she corners like on rails now,

they guy in the tyre shop said they have had a lot of the trail attacks tyres deforming:rolleyes:

Another tyre thread - best for road / grip

Hi,

trip to the Alps next month and should see some fast twisty tarmac. Going to take off the TKCs and would welcome any suggestion on some grippy road tyres. Happy to sacrifice wear / durability for grip as will be swapping back to TKCs once back in blighty.

Thanks
Rod

I'm doing a Pyrenees trip in July, and I'm planning to fit Conti Trail Attacks. The new Dunlops look good, although I haven't checked yet to see if they have a 21" front.

+1 for Conti Trail attacks. Great grip in both wet and dry. Now fitted as standard on many new 1200GS. Came top in Motorrad adventure bike tyre test with Anakee coming in sixth. Trail Attacks led the field by big margin in the dry weather tests, came third in the Wet (Anakee II's came first in wet) but had best wet weather braking performance of the six tyres and the best Wear rates. I love them on my 800. Just don't expect them to work off-road in mud as they won't. Brilliant road tyre though.

Here's a link to the full test here. It take a few seconds to load as it's a big PDF file. http://www.conti-online.com/generat...ycle/general/links/news/cta_testwinner_en.pdf

read properly: ROAD TYRE

Hi, rdj, I did a search a while ago to find the best ROADtyre to use on mine and my wifes F650gs twins, wanted no compromise, since we do a lot of touring/ camping (yes, also the alps, those hairpin bends!! the landscape) , and came to the conclusion that there was one clear winner, the dunlop ROADSMART. Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Agz_iwOfxw&feature=fvw
The tyre wiped the competition away on all important points, stability, grip in the wet etc.
If you still want to go for a more enduro kind of tyre, like the battlewing, have a look at the dunlop trailmax tr91, just out, and very promising, look at http://www.dunlop-tires.com/dunlop_euen/mc/tyres/on_off_road/Trailmax_TR91.jsp
Good luck, and have a good trip!!

if its any use i have done the alps on an 1150 adv (before i got the 800gs) on anakees and they were great.

Have just been to the Dunlop website and they don't list a 19" tyre. Do they do these tyres for the 650 twin? I'm also looking for a pure road tyre - going to the pyrenees this summer.

110/80 -19

Hi, Ferret, dunlop is behind with their website, available are: 110/80 -19 and 150/70 -17 , my tyre dealer can order them no problem. go for it! otherwise, the tr91 seem to have the same qualities almost, good 2nd.

Anakee II's reaches the parts other tyres cannot reach :D

I'd still say Battlewings are very nice on clean tarmac & grip like fk :comfort

You are very correct sir, but as soon as you drive on something else (grass, sand) they don't cope!

On my 1996 F600 single I drove with Anakee's some 22000 km and it never scared me at any moment !

My 800 came with BW and trust me, it scared the sh*t out of me sometimes (elsewhere than on tarmac) and even caused me a 5 months holidays free of bike. All depends where you're living I guess...
:augie

I have now returned to Anakee's and confidence came back, after all that's the rubber that keeps you on the road/track, no ? :augie
So, +10 for the Anakee's :D

Think the request made via this thread was for the best tyres to use ON ROAD, not off road, in the Alps on twisties in May.

Thanks for the reply CuriousExplorer - really helpful. Sounds like it's the Dunlops for me!

(Then added) ....... 150/70 17 ..... standard tyre is 140/80 17. I thought I'd read on here somwhere that the speedo drive was picked up from the rear. What will that change in size do for speedo readings?

Otherwise, following my own (good) experiences and having read the German tyre test on the previous page, I shall go back to Tourances.
