Hi Dave,
yes there on order. I believe my local 'Bike parts man' is waiting for delivery of Heidenhau heavy duty tubes. Failing this I will get some heavy duty ones from BMW during my Easter trip to SA.

Might not be relevant , but on our mountain bikes protruding spokes cause no end of punctures. Hence rim tape. If you dont have rime tape, electrical tape or gaffa tape should stop the spokes popping the tube.

Spot on, if BMW really believe there's no need to use a rim tape with tubed tyres they're talking bollox.
Use HD tubes and gaffa tape/rim tape or both, but have a good look at the old tube before making any assumptions

I can assure you I was concentrating on breathing never mind finding neutral. Cleaning bill no different from a normal Friday ride (how I'm not sure). It proved to be very good practice in keeping the shiny side up/black side down. Hopefully never to be repeated.

my sentiments entirely. The rim has now had a rubber liner placed and, as there isn't a HD tube available, just a normal BMW light tube fitted. This will be replaced as soon as the HD arrive. BMW were adamant that they don't provide their rims with any sort of protective barrier at all!! One of the reasons for starting the post was to find out if this is maybe a 'recall' issue with the rims, but from the lack of feed-back to-date, doesn't appear that that is the case.
Anyway, I like to think that all the off-roading balancing exercises have finally paid dividends.

I've just had Tourance EXPs fitted, but haven't had time to get out on the bike. Will report back in a couple of hundred miles!
Mine came with Pirellis from new and the back was just about smooth with 8130 miles on. That included 1000 or so hot motorway miles in two days from Nice to York last summer, and the Stella Alpina. Couldn't really fault them, but the EXPs seem to get the best comments here as a road tyre. My off roading is just a few miles on dirt roads and farm tracks every now and again anyway.

Hi Dave,
I will only be collecting my bike this weekend so will have a chance then to inspect the old tube and spokes and ask questions. I will keep all informed.

There is rim tape on the back at least, I had a flat a couple of years ago and the tube moved on the rim damaging it and the rim tape, it was due a new tyre anyway but ended up needing a new tube and rim tape, but had to wait for the tape as it had to come from Germany.

MIne has rim tape too. It was pretty muched when I last changed my tyres so I fitted new.
You go to BMW dealer to buy inner tubes......
Is there not a local moto-x shop nearby your location?
And if there is, they should also stock rim tape.

HI mark,
after removing the tyre there was rim tape on the front as well. It appears when I had the OEM tyres replaced with Heidenhau, the fitter didn't replace the tape. The tube and tape liner were shredded.

yes, I got them in SA as locally in the UAE its a problem. However good news, our local biker accessories source, 2Xwheeler, will soon have stock of Heidenhau HD tubes as well as tyres. Will get these fitted as soon as I get back from leave.

The closest I had to this was the base of a valve splitting on a rear tyre on a KTM 690.
Luckily I wasn't on a motorway at the time or at any speed.

All in the head mate, if you like the feel of the BW and they last well, dont change.
Talk to racers about tyres and they will tell you its all about how your head feels with whatever tyres on, if theyre working and you like them, theyre right for you
