Right folks I've just sold my 650 Dakar. I've got a bit of cash and a hankering for a 1200. Doing a bit of research on them now and have seen mention of reliability issues in the pre 08 models.

Realistically my budget doesn't stretch to a post 08. Are these issues serious? Should I be looking at late 1150s instead?

Ooooooooh - mean! :bow

Sadly true though,on the first bike at least :blast ;)
The jury is still out on the second one, awaiting further info............. :friday

I've a 2007 1200gs and had no problems at all, (apart from the usual fueling remap it needs) got a mate with over 100,000 miles on one and apart from the usual wear and tear he's had no issues either.

As with all things of all ages there's good and bad, buy a good well looked after one, and look after it, and it'll look after you regardless of mileage or age.

I had 30,000 trouble free miles on my 54 plate 1200 and would still have it now if I hadn't been rear ended by a car and getting it written off. As said above, buy a clean well looked after one and you should be ok.
Or you could save up and buy a 1150 GSA as I did.
Whichever way you go you'll enjoy no end

Right I reassessed my budget and ended up buying an 1150 last weekend. Great bike and I'm a happy man!

Well done fella. I much prefer my 1150 to the 1200 I had. Both great bikes but IMO the 1150 is better built. Enjoy the new bike
