My thoughts so far on my new black 2007 gs compared to 2004 gs 15,000 mls

Good stuff:
General feeling of increased smoothness and refinement giving a perception of improved response and performance. (maybe caused by the ‘feel good factor’ having a nice new shiny bike)
Transmission much less clunky, gear change less notchy.
All adds up to big improvement on an already excellent ride.

Bad stuff:
To say the fuel gage is erratic is an understatement…..I think the only way to gain a true perceptive of how much fuel remains will be by checking the trip meter.
Further on the computer, I was surprised that the fuel consumption and average speed do not reset after every journey.
I would have preferred a metallic finish as I think this surface is less prone to scratching than solid. None of these minor issues detract from the pleasure of owning the bike.

Question:
I understand from other posts that the 1st service should include a transmission oil change but the service staff deny this, has anyone got any further info? I have been quoted approx £120 for this service which seems a bit steep since it was free last time, how does this compare elsewhere? Thanks in anticipation.

Conclusion:
No regrets I so love this bike, I have been biking mad ever since 1981 and this is the first time I have ever bought a replacement bike the same as the previous one.

The new R1200R is down for the final drive oil to be changed at the 600 mile service. This a one time change as stated in the latest info from BMW.

i too will pick up my replacement in November swopping an 04 bike. nice to hear there are some improvements to yours but didnt understand the metalic finish is better point - what parts are you referring to?

Sorry for the confusion, the black paint on the tank cover and front beak is non metallic or solid, my old 04 bike was a red metalic. It's just a personal choice, i prefer metalic.

Quoted flat fee of £100 for first service from SLM on my new bike. The also like the bike with 800-1000 miles on it.

Cost to change

Wilddog, would you mind disclosing how much it cost to go from 04 to 07, what spec your 04 , what miles? What spec new one? I'm considering going 04 to 07.Thanks

07 has new brakes, much more progressive than 06.
No FD drain plug, at least 07 Adv has new handlebar and more stainless bolts, than 06.

Price to change.......too much!
The options on the new bike:
ABS
computer
heated grips
plastic cylinder head guards
white indicators
chrome exhaust

And on the 04:
ABS
heated grips
cylinder guards

My part exchange was excellent condition, no accidents full BMWSH. The only thing they marked me down on was the need of a new front tyre and 'high' mileage 15,400. (a joke in my opinon) gulp, price to change was £3950. I went to two different dealers and both quoted to within £50. My best advice would be to endure a bit of hassle and try and sell private, even with my trade in they gave me approx £440 discount on list which could mean a saving of £1500+ if you used this method.
Having already said it was too much, i have no regrets, the extra toys and improved feel make it worth while for me. So that's it, not the best deal i have ever done but hassle free and i'm happy. Thanks for the service price info.
