05 1200 EATING TYRES

My 05 1200 has just done a rear trail wing in 3800miles,
the fronts last about 9k,

I favoured trail wings but these are no longer avaliable,
I have tried conti trail attacks and they were ok but still only 4k outta the rear and about 9k outta the front,

I do about 16k a year and its starting to get expensive, so are there any other brands that will give me the same grip but last longer?

I would prefer a trails type tyre as I do go down some forest tracks etc now and then and feel they may be a bit less suseptable to damage than a road tyre but if I can get a higher wear rate and good grip on the road I would go for a road tyre.

Any suggestions?

Bloody hell I've got Conti Trail Attacks on my GSA and the rear was replaced at 10500 with the front still at 2mm after 16000 miles

Can tracking be an issue? I know some race types say it's really crucial

As the others have intimated, it's not the tyres it's your riding.
That's not necessarily a bad thing tho, its just a fact of life. If you enjoy the throttle, it kills tyres quickly.
Live with it, or learn to be a bit kinder on the tyres....

Personally I'd love to get your kinda miles from a rear.

I like Torque

yes I like to ride quick,

generally I dont rev it above 4.5k, rarely go above 80mph,I like to ride the torque,the ocassional wheelie in first gear I like to brake hard,but thats the front taking that, I do drag the rear brake in quick corners if I need to tighten up the corner.

I always get 220 miles from a tank of fuel so I aint caning it that much I reckon.

I know Hayabusa riders getting more out of a tyre ( avon something)

There MUST be a suitable compromise?

doesnt seem like your riding style then? i get more than that and it seems im a faster/harder rider than you judging by what you say..

It could be the tyres.
My 1150 came with Trailwings fitted so thought I just use them until they were shot.
Handling become worse and worse and both front and rear were gone by 3,500 I sometimes get 5k from a rear TKC which handle better than the Trailwings did.

If I use road tyres again it's back to old faithful Tourance.

regularly used to use up a rear in 3,000k on my 04 1200 but that is a lot to do with our hot Aussie roads and riding tight twisties enthusiastically .

4-5000 is about right if you are get above this get a push bike it is not a car any bike ridden nicely will do that mileage try buying really sticky rubber 1500 tops but what a blast. remember the tyres and brakes are the most important things in your life when riding a bike so live with it

I see a lot of RTW riders use these for the gravel type roads.

I like to corner hard on the Tarmac, arnt these a bit to knobbly for fast road riding and what about in the wet?

I thought nobblys fell apart with a lot of high speed road use.

I have had the rear brake catch fire a couple of times in the mountains of Portugal when playing.

I like to think I am smooth with the throttle, like I said I love to feel the torque and as we know its 2 fistfulls for full chat and I dont like turning my wrist that much.

I've rarely seen much more than 4-5k out of a rear on the GS or GSA. My weakness is my love of the throttle - I could have much more mechanical sympathy but choose to enjoy it

As an answer to the OP, I don't think the answer is in the tyre but in your riding style, riding type (touring/commuting) and all up weight.

I was going through a set of rear pads in about 4k,
I tried after market and they wore quicker,
I now use the BMW sintered ones that go in the adventure and HP2,about £45a set but they last ages,got 40k out of the rear disc before it was shagged,been running a EBC one for the last 12k and no probs

So the consensus seems to be if I want more miles I ride like a pussy and forget about enjoying why I bought the 1200 in the first place

I better work a bit harder to pay for my habit.

Try some michelin anakee 2s i ride off the torque and round the shoulders but get a good 7000 from a rear and always fit pairs when its taitered i.e front rear at same time,f*** the exspense ride ,njoy but live
