Hi, I have just bought my first BMW, an 06 R1200GS which I collect this coming Sunday. The guy I'm buying it from tells me that it doesn't have an alarm or an immobiliser fitted to it. I have a BMW owning friend who tells me that they have an immobiliser as standard, would anyone know which is correct?

If it helps the Bike has one metal key and one plastic one?

Regards,

JC

It has an immobilizer as standard but not the alarm. You can get the alarm from the dealer and fit really quickly - plug & play.

Think it's about 100 quid.

PS) Should have two metal keys - new ones are only £26 from the dealer but must be ordered.

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me, it'll help with the insurance as well!!

Is this true of the 05 as well? I thought I'd lost it so bought another. :blast

Worth noting that the BMW Alarm isn't Thatcham approved so it generally doesn't give any benefit re insurance.

BMW alarm was £230 last week fitted and it isnt plug and play as the ECU needs programed to tell it there is an alarm connected
