Hi First post here

Have recently purchased an 07 gsa and the fuel gauge shows half full but in fact it is nearly empty:mad: can it be reset or should i open the wallet for a new part?

could be a fuel strip problem, best get hooked up to a GS 911 at your local main dealer or a good independent.

Live with it;

keep the tank full, use the trip meter and refill every 260 miles.

A working fuel gauge is needed in a gsa, its all right you saying this but I've had as much as 440 miles from a tankfull and as little as 280, if I filled up at 260 miles I may have only used 20 litres and could have done another 160 miles if I knew how much fuel was in the tank.
I've had 7 fuel strips now, if you get the dealer to fit a new one it will come with a 2 year warranty, about 200 quid, my last one I paid for was replaced 3 times under the warranty. At least that made each one only about 50 quid. Next time it goes I won't hesitate to pay for a new one.

I had loads replaced, I gave up.

Gsa fuel tank @33l

45mpg × 6 gallons (27l) = 270 miles with 1•3 gallon (6l) in reserve.

Yes, I've got almost 70mpg (A1 roadworks) then again I got 28mpg (Knockhill), personally I prefer a break and a kitkat after a couple of hours riding.

As an aside, rr computer says range 135 after filling up, but I've never got more than 90/95 before fuel light comes one. Is it telling the truth or fibs ?

I don't intend to find out far I have to push to the next petrol station.

I fitted a stick type float sender unit with separate head unit. However the fuel strip is more important than simply reading fuel level.
Disconnect the strip and you will probably run dry with 7 or 8 litres in the tank. A really good fuel pump might be ok but older pumps run dry.
The fuel pump power should be turned up by the ZFE when the strip indicates under 25% remaining This gives enough return flow to empty the tank right hand side. With no fuel strip this won’t happen. With a broken fuel strip the pump constantly runs hard so wears out faster.
If you are planning on spending £200 (plus the hassle of going back to BMW every few weeks) you might as well buy a fuel strip converter box and float.

They sound interesting. Do you have any more details in these please?

I've been working on a DIY version (though its not even close). You need to do a "Fuel Strip" search but such things are available.

Google this "BMW fuel strip float converter"

Is the Dutch one still on the go ?

Can you not hurry up like a good chap, there's a market begging to give you drinking tokens.

Last time I looked the converters cost a lot more than that. But if £30 is true that’s a bargain. I’ll check again.
