08 bike with 830 miles!

"The Reason I am selling - to be Genuine & honest it's not been used enough. because of weather or not been able to get out on it "family" The weather`s been bad for 3 years! some people don`t deserve to own a bike, I`ve done 2000 miles in the last 3 months just for pleasure, no communting.

:nenau

What's the prob?

It's his bike, he can do what he wants?

I know of a 2008 800GS with full TT panniers and other stuff, in the next village with less than 500 miles on it......................in fact it's done more miles on my bike trailer, than it has on its own wheels:augie

Not related to this specific bike but to ultra-low mileage bikes I've seen advertised.

I've spotted a few BMW's on Autotrader and eBay that have less than a 1,000 miles on the clock on bikes that are '02-'03-'04 registered and the owners/dealers are asking really high prices with the "as new" label attached. I remember seeing an R1150R on an '02 and the owner was asking around £5.5K because it had around 900 miles. That's about £2K over valued to my thinking.

My logic is that if it's an '03 bike it's worth an '03 price (maybe a little extra if it's super clean and with history). Having say 1,200 miles on the clock means nothing as when you buy it and put 2K on it in the next couple of months it's now lost any additional value you paid for it being "as new"

Does anyone else agree with this logic? or would you pay a premium for a low miler?

I bought my (2004) 1000 Fazer in May 2010 with only 1680 miles on it. It had been sitting in a pokey wee m/c shop for the guts of four years. The 1st owner had had a minor stroke and sold it to this shop along with several other bikes that he owned. I'm guessing no-one bought it as the shop owner was kinda hard to deal with and if he didn't get what he wanted, it'd stay and gather dust. However, he died and the son took over and advertised the bike on Gumtree. That's where I came in. Did I get a bargin ? No, I paid about the right price for an '04 Fazer thou. But I have got a mint low mileage machine which I'm quite happy with.

Nice pics of bike on beach, looks like they carried it there though; no tyre tracks or sand on bike.
Also - "If you use the Buy it Now I'll add my BMW L/R panniers & top box, and Maybe even -( Consider also adding ) Hand Guards"
There is no pannier rack or hand guards on the bike in pic.
Did he remove them just for the pictures?

I can see sand in the tyre grooves (and he may have had a fine rake for detailing the sand :D) and maybe he took those pics when the bike was new and he hadn't got the other bits at that point ?

Yes true you can do what you want with your own bike, just can`t understand how you can resist the temtation to ride it but then maybe I am obsessed with riding bikes!
Got a bicycle indoors (1 of 4) with 27,000 miles on it, about ten years old and the average mileage isn`t far off a lot of motorbikes!

Or he left it there while the tide came in and wiped out the tyre tracks?

P'raps that's why it's low mileage... ;)

Are you fishing for a round of applause?

It's his bike, he can do, or not do, anything he likes with it.

No centre stand on beach photo, and indicators aren't clear ones on either photo...

All those that have bitch slapped him for selling with 'only' 800 miles on the clock need to watch out for Nick Marshall's threads.

I once questioned the wisdom of keeping a bike for so few miles and got :rocketwho

No offence Nick ..... I'm older and wiser now!:thumb

asked the seller the same questions , waiting for an answer, to me it doesn't add up , i smell a fish :) but i'll give it the benefit of the doubt until i receive an answer ...., still looking for an 800gs, preferably one that exsists :) has been riden , modified with the right kit..

As u said Tunneruk , there is the nick marshall syndrome :) so its probably cosha, no offence Nick :)

Nope not fishing, agree it`s up to him what he does with his bike, trouble is when you go to sell a bike with what I would call normal mileage you get bugger all for it.

So what would you call normal mileage? Maybe for the seller his mileage is normal.

As a courier I'd often do 2000 or 3000 mile weeks, that was normal for me.

Got a reply

"Hi Yeah about the pic's, The pic's used are of a BMW F800 Gs. Only used just to show people what these Bike's look like. I dont have a camera Or Mobile that take's pic's, so I used These one's. Sorry to everyone about this, But to clear thing's up - These pic's are not of my Bike they just a guide. The Bike is like this one same colour "But" it has what I say in the ad.So yes it has Both Stand's & clear lens indicators. Bought from BMW Dealer based in York".

I wont be bidding on this , it smells of fish :thumb

Too right, can't even spend £30 on a digital camera. Surely everyone has access to one now a days, especially when selling a bike at that sort of money.

He bought an Haynes for it last month...

Maybe the drugs have gone to his head
