just been to the nw200,i parked my 08 gsa outside the paddock on friday went to start the bike and it wouldnt start, i tried everything including fitting a new fpc that i carry as a spare but still nothing, then a young irish kid came by and said have you got your spare key, i told him no i then had to wait 7 hours to get it recovered, the bike was transported to the ferry terminal on sunday and just before it went on the ferry i tried to start it and it fired into life i then stopped it and i tried again and it failed to start, the bike was then transported to nottingham, as soon as i got home i tried the spare key and it starts everytime!
any ideas? also make sure you carry your spare key

Its the ring thingy around the ignition lock that speaks to your key. They fixed them for the 09 model.
Your local bm might fix for goodwill.

ive not seen any EWS displayed on the instrument cluster, im going to change it anyway, how much do these cost?

Then it's most probably the microswitches.

See recent thread on just the same topic.

Iv got my plastic key on my bike all the time. and a wire with plugs on it for the fuel pump, going to start taking a rear drive unit as well. i think that is y bmw have the large ally boxies on.lol

since i got back its never missed a beat, starts with all keys, could have been a bit of water ingress in the power commander wiring as its not very weather friendly ,pidcocks kindly put it on the diagnostics for me but nothing showed up other than the knackered fuel gauge, hid lights and power commander fault codes

Apologies for going off topic. But did your fuel gauge give odd readings randomly or did it just stop working overnight.

hi cb
the gauge failed after being stood for about 6 weeks with the dreaded yellow triangle on the dash, i might get round to fixing it, i dont know if anyones done a 'how to' and bmw should do the right thing and reduce the cost of the strip
