... What's the forum thinking, experience or wisdom on fitting "existing" light bars to the new model release? Roger's (Thunder) excellent bling thread hasn't got to the aux lights yet and I've a couple of specific questions

... Does the remodelled 08 1200GS still have the forward 'rails' under the beak on which to mount a Nippy's, or Migsel light bar?

... Has anybody transferred a pre-existing aux light set-up from a GS12 to an ADV12?
... Did this involve modifying the bar with 'adaptive' brackets, or has the light-bar been scrapped and a new/different mount employed?
... Have/how have the upper tank protection bars been modded/adapted?
... It looks the ADV upper tank protection bars need to be removed for tank removal and service, this would mean removing the aux lights too if that's where they're mounted. What type of electrical disconnect has been tried or considered?

... I'm considering transferring my much loved BTBR MicroDE/FF50 set-up to an ADV12, I might opt for the standard 08 GS12 if it's going to be excessively complex. Any advice* from the assembled?

... *Other than the "get an 1150" nonsense from the peanut gallery :D

Ahh well glasshopper, there is a very good reason that my excellent lighting system has not been fitted and that I sold my Migsel GS bar last week...........

It won't fit the 2008! :blast

The 2008 GS has had a serious update to the front subframe, it has not been just a case of a shortened beak, it's a whole new ballgame underneath including a new tank and I just took some pictures this evening with the beak and side panels removed for reference!

Don't know what the position is with the 2008 GSA, it has a shortened beak as well but retains the previous models body panels

I'm currently talking with Les Wassell about options for mounting lights but it's early days, all I can say is any light bar that fitted the previous version won't go on this one. :(

Made an interesting discovery as well, you can find it here. :augie

I've sold my '05 GS1200 and am picking up a '08 GS1200 in a few weeks. I've taken my BTBR fitted lights off (Migsel bracket) and was hoping to get BTBR to fit them to the new bike. Are you saying they will not fit?

Thanks

Sorry, having re-read the above (should have done it before posting) it looks like you are saying my Migsel bracket is now no good. Maybe Migsel will do another bracket so at least I wont have to lose use of my BTBR lights totally.

Otherwise there maybe a set going cheaply which would be a shame as they are great lights.

I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before someone develops a light bar for the 08 model, as I mentioned already I'm working on options with Les so don't sell the lights too quickly, the bar can go though :blast

I'm off to see if the Hid bracket from the old model will fit, looks like it should but until I try can't say for certain, outcome will of course be posted! :thumb

Posted reply before reading your last - thanks for your help.

Have mailed Migsel to see if he has an answer. What are you considering on your new one?

Does Les Wassell do light bars or just HID headlight replacements?

Looking at all options to be honest, the HIDs will keep me going until the right bar is available.

Les produces light mounts for the 1150's and is currently working on the 1200's I believe. :nenau

... Thanks Roger ... you da man :thumb

... I see a couple of options including following up with Les regarding either a new light bar, or an adaptor for existing bars. Also following up with Alan (BTBR) for his thoughts.

... For the GSA, the upper tank bars provide an ideal position. I hope it will not be beyond the wit of man to "re-bracket" either the Migsel, Les, or NN light bar to mount to the tank bars. BuMW also produce a secondary bar for their factory light set-up, this might provide an alternative kick-off point

... Any GSA users with existing BuMW aux lights following this?

... If so ... is there a "quick disconnect" on the factory set-up to facilitate easy light/bar removal?

... I'm so happy with my BTBR set-up and so determined to retain it, that it's becoming a crucial factor in deciding between an 08 GS or 08 GS-ADV to replace The Prawn :duno

Yes indeed.

There will be a 2008 light bar soon. As soon as my engineer has recovered from his knee surgery actually. I hope to see him back at work next week :)

The 2008 version of the GPS mount is being worked on as well.

Cheers,
Michel

They are ready :thumb2

The GPS mount has been in the webshop for a while.

The light bar will be soon.
The mounting bits are ready but I need to make a fitting manual.
And since I don't have 2008 GS in my garage for pics, that's not so quickly done.

Cheers,
Michel
