10,000 mile service...what to expect

If you don't have a helpful answer to give I reckon it's better just to avoid answering the thread :nenau

I didn't mean to upset yer.
Thought you were having a pop at me, so i would have a pop at you. No harm ment.
I do have a manual, but where it is, i dont know:nenau
Once again sorry if you had a sence of humor failure, but no harm ment.

After all i was only after advise.......didnt expect to get kicked up the ass.
Lesson learnt.......wont ask here anymore.

Don't worry about it, sticks and stones and all that crap, ask away!

not again:spitfire
GOD , he only asked a Feking question. No wonder we get other site forums coming in and taking the piss.

Thread before this one is spot on, should a mod be saying that:nenau Quote "Steptoe do you think it wise you being a Mod
to be putting someone on your ignore list ?
just asking a question " UNquote.

Horses for courses, surely, if you do not like answering questions silly or not, is being a mod a good idea:nenau

And nandh and anyone else, keep asking, and you will get great advice and help.:)

big huff (again)

i cringe when i read some questions, but they get sensible replies then others that seem reasonable get ripped to bits its like open season.
we are all unsure at times and need a little guidance:nenau

agreed:thumb
But its much worse when people feel they are too scared to ask a question. If this was my site, i wouldnt allow it to be like that. it should be friendly and helpful, no matter how many times an obviously basic question comes up, it may be basic for the majority of us, but it should be also help for the newbies. Just my HO

The only silly question is the one you did not ask :)
I am sure we have all heard that before, or haven't we???
I must ask loads of daft questions every week, I get advice, then ask that question no more ( or I ask someone else ) :D

Thats how we all learnt when we were young kids, same applys now

If yer learn summat every day
you will be a clever sod when yer my age !!!! :rob

Merry Xmas

Rear drive gear oil – change (every 24K miles)

Clutch fluid – change (every 2 years)

Do the rear drive oil every 6k if you've any mechanical sympathy

And the clutch fluid every year (i do it on every major service on the bikes that come in to me - otherwise the clutch bleed unit seizes up .

I'll try and help anyone - but it helps if they try and help themselves first.

The first thing i do with any vehicle i own is get hold of a handbook for that model . Saves you looking an arsehole when you ask the most basic questions that are in the handbook. And the handbooks purpose is to help you. You may not always find yourself in front of a computer to ask for help . And it gives the person answering the question more of his precious time helping those that have tried to help themselves, and really need help, and aren't just being lazy.

P.S. i also get a "few" PM's also asking for help.

Do you give help ? - or just always take ?

One of my first post's was in a thread related to the start up procedure as layed down in the manual. Unfortunatley when i parted with a very large amount of cash the dealer neglected to supply said manual ( yes i know it's my fault for buying a 1200:rolleyes: ). I was advised to ignore what the manual said and just get on with riding it. I can appreciate that the manual will give you the basic info but everyone has different perspectives and information as you've just posted

I've just tried a couple of searches aswell, Tried 'Oil', 'Servicing' and 'Workshop and Repair Manuals'. These all appear in the 'Fount of All Wisdom' section, but don't appear on the search results, because that section is closed:nenau . Be better if they were searched and came up first on the list of answers. And if you search for 'oil' it's too short for the search system to work with. Might get a few less questions if these things were improved.

And all of your (and most others here) frustrations would be cured, questions answered and Searches deemed unnecessary if you simply read ... or acquired and then read...a manual for your bike.

It`s not a lack of knowledge that gets attacked......it`s the bone idle and dipshit mentality of those who ask for the sake of asking, instead of looking and reading first.

That had me worried for a bit- having all the useful and helpful info in one place and not being able to search there would be silly.....but it does come up on search results.......not sure what you're doing wrong there

The section is 'closed' only so that it doesn't get swamped with masses of silly posts....it only means you can't post there, not that you can't search....if there's any info that you feel needs adding to it, just PM a mod or stick it in a thread elsewhere and it'll be added ;)

HTH

You may be able to search it as your a mod and can post in there. Is it the same for a forum sponsor?

Could someone else try searching for a word in there to check this out please?

:)

I just cut'n'pasted this from Wappings oil thread, but his thread doesn't show in the search results.

A way forward

Tarka,in a post in the "comments" section has suggested that this "Technical" section be renamed the 1100/1150 section (as other models each have their own sub-section).That may reduce confusion in "where do i post" situations.
I would also suggest creating a "sticky" titled along the lines of "Before you ask a question, read here".The sticky would offer advice along the lines of,
"Have you tried to find the information you need from your handbook"
"Have you done a search of the forum (with a short guide on how to search)".
"Have you tried other sources of technical info, with a link to those resources listed in the technical bit of the "links" thread".You know the sort of thing,ADVrider hall of wisdom and the Internet BMW riders site.
"Always include the bikes model and year in your question".Basic info yes,but how many times have you seen posts where a question for a 1200 gets answered with info for an 1150?.
I've no doubt that some people wont read the sticky before posting, but as least then they can be referred to it without the usual rising of the blood pressure.I would also suggest it would help cut down on the number of Technical queries.
Another suggestion might be to encourage people who have solved (or who have had solved) an unusual problem to post in the relevant technical section a "symptons/fault analysis/fix" post to add to the database for future reference.

Nandh, the chap that started this thread, asked a civil question,he didn,t deserve the replies he got.
All the replies are,of course true and relevant.
There are ways of answering (or not..just ignore) that dont cause offence.
After all,he might be a huge, serial killer, black belt ,ex marine...etc.
Replies and questions should be worded as if face to face,
We are here to talk about bikes after all,not argue.
Happy Christmas.:beerjug:
