The majority of bikes have a flat spot built in by the manufacturers, normally at between 4000 and 5000 revs. It's there to meet noise and Euro emission specification and it's bloody annoying. The 1200GS actually loses 5BHP from 4000 to 4500 RPM. I am after as smooth a power curve as possible, which in turn increases mid range driveability. It was a simple task on my VFR750 as that had carburettors. A Dynojet kit, K&N filter and a run on the dyno saw a regular power curve and sorted the fuelling. No extra power at the top end but an extra 8BHP at 5000 RPM where the flat spot used to be. Now, that's what I'm after.
I'm with you on the aims Sye top end is not the issue for me it's down to mid range and torque the fact Power Commander do not intend to produce a unit for the 1200GS in the near future means a custom map is not a possibility.
The option of aftermarket headers and a Wundelich / Techlusion contoller does tick most of the boxes however.
