100gs front brake upgrade

Fitted the HE disc last night and although I have only ridden to work (7miles)
Braking seems greatly improved, forks actually dip now!
Might need some progressive springs now:augie

I sold the Motorworks supplied 4-pot caliper after my RTW trip and put the standard one back on with a cast-iron pfm disk. The 4-pot just ate pads and didn't seem to improved matters noticeably.

I went the pfm route after trying my mate's bike with standard caliper that stopped better than mine with the 4-pot.

on Brembo 4 pots I just use the standard pads on mine thous Sintel pads go down licke spreading buter on your toast and I dont see any uther diferance apart from the life span is aboute 10 % of a normal pad :ronno

I used the same set up as the R100R, 2 x 4 piston Brembos, R100R 15mm Master Cylinder, Braided hoses, Machined another right hand forkleg and mounted it on the left hand side, wheel hub machined for 2nd disc, upgraded fork springs, K100 reflector attacjed with black cable ties and silicon.Braking much improved, but still does not seem as good as the R100R, maybe its because the forks have more travel

Yep, that's what I had and it was a vast improvement over standard (as would be the heel of your boot on the front tyre ) and a cost effective mod. You need to keep in mind the small contact patch of the narrow 21 inch tyre, you don't really want to lock up the front :blast Under heavy braking with the above set up I could feel the front tyre squirming but there was enough feel to get max breaking without inadvertently locking up.

Roger Chatterton has the best set up I've seen on his PD - a Billet six pot calliper made especially for the R80 & R100 GS's - that bolts straight onto the fork slider without any additional bracketry or adapter plates, and uses the regional disc.
He reckons it's very effective - I only saw it at the Belgian Airhead weekend, but was well impressed & will be getting one for mine very soon

Litelfun

You say just fit and bleed but a single lefthand caliper needs about 4mm milling off the top and bottom lugs, when fitted to an R100GS-PD, to centralise it.
