I have finally got around to getting my bike set up with a power commander and a custom map. My GS is a 2007 model (before the facelift) with 12,000 miles on the clock. It has a BMW/Akrapovic silencer and I have just added the Akrapovic headers from Nippy Norman, so no cat. I got Banjax in London E2 to fit K&N filters, a PCIII and then do a custom map. I have attached the power curves before and after the remap.

With just the Akrapovic exhaust, the bike felt much more punchy and the noise increase was marginal. The real surprise was the effect of the custom map. Peak power went up by 9.5hp and there is more power everywhere. The bike runs very lean with the mods and a standard map, see the lines at the bottom. The PC enriches the mixture and it seems to run much better. BTW I have removed the lambda sensors as recommended. I wasn't able to do a dyno run with the standard exhaust but I think 101hp at the rear wheel is pretty good.

Have only done 10 miles so far but the fuel consumption has improved from a consistent 42-43mpg in town to 50mpg according the computer. Not conclusive but not a bad start.

theres a supercharger for 1150,s , adapt to a 1200? and kill those busa boys, (or yourself)
 
nitrous is interesting, i put it on a 3 wheeler once,
but it blew up:blast
also had it on a 1000cc kwak
and an xl600,
was an interesting time in my life:D
 
That looks like a really nice set-up you have there. I still can't quite get my head around how you get better fuel economy from a richer mixture, but that is probably because I am a bit slow like that. :mmmm

it isnt rich, originally it was weak
 
Not sure what causes the dip and Martin the dyno man couldn't get rid of it. The PC only alters fuelling not ignition. Many bikes have a dip at about 5,000rpm and journos often blame noise testing. Hasn't been noticeable in my exhaustive 10 mile test but am taking the bike to Denmark in 2 weeks so will report back.
 
yes, usually to do wi noise regs, its a common thing (look at a suzuki bandit curve for a proper dip:eek:)

Yep, you'll need 101bhp at the rear wheel the first time you hit a rut / river crossing / sand / mud :toungincheek
 
Interesting results. Are you sure the Power commander was operational on the first run ? Find it hard to believe the standard map could be so wrong. Surely they would have developed it to run with this combination of modifications ? If this is correct the guys at Dynojet need to go back to the drawing board PDQ.

Also interesting to see that it didn't remove the power dip. For me that would be the main reason to buy one - ie to 'iron out' the power delivery rather than boost peak power.

Sounds good, but what about the torque curve(s)?

Looking at BHP on it's own isn't quite right....

You need to look at both to get the complete picture.

I thought Dynojet recommend that the lambda sensors are removed so that should be factored in ? Strange that the bike appeared to be running lean across the whole rev range with the standard map.
