1050 Adventure

from MCN:

"The 1050 Adventure is a less powerful, lighter, smaller capacity stablemate to the range-topping 1190 and 1290 versions and is aimed at replacing the old 990SMT, which was extremely popular with UK riders. The new bike also hopes to appease those KTM riders who were far from impressed when the old 990 Adventure was axed and replaced with the heavier, more complex and more expensive 1190 and 1290 versions. Those riders wanted a much simpler and lighter machine that could tackle off road riding if needed, but which made long distance road rides comfortable and exciting."

According to the KTM website, the weight without fuel of the 1050 is the same as the 1190. The power output is 94bhp, which means it can be ridden by someone with an A2 licence (with the bike restricted to 47bhp).

Sad, I wanted a lighter bike, and the alu wheels... humm... no thank you. But then again Honda is coming with something interesting....

..........

panniers are an improvement, and i'm buying a pair of those mirrors. don't like the coffin shaped things on my 1190. they look like they should on some crappy chopper :)

Aren't those the same metal boxes that fit the 1190 and require frames? I'm on my phone so can't quite see properly........

So basically three bikes in one:

A replacement for the SMT & 990 Adventure and something that can be restricted to 47bhp

I wonder what sizes the wheels are?

they look like angular gsa/sw motech boxes to me which do have a frame. the existing ktm ali panniers are touratech zegas with a powerparts sticker

Ah yeah, I see what you mean - no luggage listed on the KTM site yet for the 1050.

I *think* there will be a direct SMT replacement using the 1050 lump as well as possibly a SM? Wasn't it mentioned that 3 new models were going to be released using the 1050?

More pictures HERE BTW - the bike looks very small and the luggage frames hooooooge, I think it may be a wide angle lens effect though?

The luggage is made by Givi, same as on my bike, looks like the mounts are there for the big sandwich boxes also which uses the ugly KTM boxes.

So less power than my old 990A, but carries the same weight as the 1190A? I'm not seeing the attraction/point of it, was hoping for something a bit more like the 990. Oh well, lets see what Honda bring...

dont forget canbus and shite exhaust as well!!!
Dont think I will be trading in the 990 just yet.

Does anyone know what the 1050 seat height is? I would have liked the 1190 adventure but its a bit too tall in the saddle for me.

The 1050A is on the KTM website, seat height is listed as 850mm.

I think it will be a nice bike. lacking the "bring me the horizon" top end rush of the 1190, but as everyone on this site apparently drives around at sixty, I can't see that being too much of a drawback

Price is going to be the big one. I reckon it will be under £10K.

I was ready to drop my F800gs for an Orange monster, but not this one. Honda is showing something interesting.... But the 990Adv. still is awesome, and very interesting.
