The Other Paul: Mike's sandblasted ' obviously didn't want to do the blasting as there's no reason you can't use this method. Ali oxide will work a treat and do no damage to the metalwork. Maybe call a few different outfits and see what they say. You might get lucky.

If that doesn't work perhaps pm me and maybe I can help. I just reckon the Deene method could take an awful long time!

Two evenings from unbolting the covers to refitting them

Cost me a can of Hammerite smooth and a pack of scotchbrite pads (but I did already have the dremel).
