1100 gearbox compatibilty

Sorry gents.it wont let me put the ad up.its a 99 r850r.i presume it will fit mt 1100gs.it looks spotless.well it should be with 6k on it.if alls ok I.ll rebuild mine myself during summer.i.m like a dog with 2 dicks now.cant wait to pick it up and get my beast back on the road.

As far as I know 850 GS boxes are interchangeable with the 1100 GS with the ratios being adjusted in the FD but I don't know if the 'R' had different gearbox ratios.

Thanks for replies lads.at that price I had to take a chance.matt I.m not sure what you mean mate about the final drive ratio.s.i guess it.ll have to be suck it and see.i.ve asked the seller if he also has the final drive and a few other bits and pieces.thanks again.

No need to change the final drive.
You have a ratio 33:11 in your R1100GS.
R850R has a ratio 37:11.

But the gearbox has the same ratios for all the gears in those both.

FWIW the M97 box I bought from Motorworks years ago and recently had reconditioned by Steve Scriminger needed one bearing renewing. If I had just fitted it it would have been as noisy as the one I was replacing. Steve put all new bearings in and reckoned the box was in great nick except for the knackered bearing. Anyway, it works well and is quiet, so job done.
