1100 gs cam chain slider

I'm with Steptoe on this one, never met the man (probably never will) but his advise has helped me out of a bind more than once.

I think Steptoes point is a bit like software piracy, he put the work in and someone else took his idea and sold it on with few parts . - that would make anyone angry. On the point of the slider mod, if he recomended it and it buggered up the mans bike it wouldnt help his rep or the poor blokes bike.

I think this site helps owning a GS a happy experience, you should have seen the Suzuki site I was a member of before getting my BMW, most users wouldnt piss on you if you were on fire.

lets focus on the good will we have here and take the mans point and f**ing move on !

I must agree, it is easy to give away knowledge here that might end up costing. (Steptoe, I promise to buy some brake pads :thumb2)

Rockchunk, take a chill pill man, I am glad you have your camchain problem sorted, my reply was actually prompted by my own experiences with the internet and customers relating to Citroen motorcars, where I have very recently told a client that he can indeed feck off having had me diagnose problems and subsequently paid some other bugger to fix em, abuse of my good nature perhaps, Like yourself I am out of range of Steptoes facilities, but I do use knowledge gleaned from these pages do do my own stuff (and I worry about those sliders:)) no intention of opening old wounds.

dude, you got some major rage issues. chill out or something.
Is it realy needed to insult people & update your posts with such colourfull postings ?

Why the insults? my point about the suzuki site not being as helpful was a positive slant on this one.
read my post again & see I didnt post a dig at you so I'm unsure why you feel the need for name calling and all the anger, I'm not sure why you think others would want to piss on me either ?

I wasnt refering to you as a pirate, but i'm sure you worked that out for yourself....maybe ???

have a virtual drink on me dude,

I spoke to Rudy and the the mechanic on the phone. Gave him advice on what to do, the mechanic seemed to have his head screwed on and a good guy to talk to. :thumb

You were as surprised as me it should re-appear. No problems at all with you. Just some of the other posters who join in things when they shouldn't.

Have a good one rockchunk, a man after my own heart :D

I'm with Steptoe on this.

I have used his mail order service for parts and I have taken my bike to him from my home in South Wales in the past, (I'm GSless at present), for him to work on. He has shown me numerous tips and tricks that he has learned from experience to help me DIY it in future when he could simply make money out of me by keeping things to himself. However, why should he give away hard earned experience to someone who will use it to get the job done elsewhere?

Steptoe has always been open and honest with me and charged a fair price for his work. He has also answered my questions via PMs when I have needed assistance. You can't get fairer than that in my book and I'm certainly not aware of any clique.

Mind you, I still didn't get a cuppa in his hospitality suite :augie

I am also with Steptoe.

Never met him personally nor his advises helped me out because someone else did. I must say that thought in spite of the sometimes peculiar way he puts things ;), I can say he is quite an altruistic person and deserves our admiration and respect - something I feel is missing a bit every now and then :toungincheek.

Furthermore, he animates this forum and that is the soul of these sites: a place for a "community" to find help. Give and take. Not necessarily return to the same chap, but once we were helped and we ought bring our knowledge and experience to help someone out. This cannot be mandated: has to come from your heart.

This is the spirit I felt here and in other forums too.

Only if Steptoe knew about rally cars... I would take my rally car to his shop :D

This is an oldish post, resurrected by Pykie at the weekend.

There is no problem with rockchunk or Onahi or anyone else for that matter :D.

All is well. :thumb.

I was only atempting to pour a little oil on troubled waters, until the question of what oil to actually use came up :aidan
