Ok I am going to take the plunge but now torn so going to ask for advice.

Which one to buy?

1. 2000 plate 1150GS with 18000 miles fsh 1 owner, all original with bmw panniers, heated grips abs, bagalux tank bag etc new tax & mot- £3500
or
2. 1998 plate 1100GS with 36000 miles fsh 3 owners all original with bmw panniers, heated grips abs new mot - £2500

Both immaculate and ride lovely.

So do I spend the extra £1000 for the mileage and 2yr younger bike.

thanks in advance

1100 every time with that price differential, it would pay for a lot of riding!

I think you should buy the 1150, a much better bike,
PM me the phone number of the 1100 owner, so I can educate him as to the why he should not sell such a crap bike:augie

I am starting to see a trend here. Or is it just the 1100 fan club? :)

Seriously though is the 18,000 mile difference any justification?

Also if a serious question, the 1100 in red the 1150 in black.

If I had the money I would have both.

It was actually a serious question, I loved my 1100 and it was red too.... I think that 1000 quid is a lot extra to pay and they are both low mileage so go for which ever one you want. I did 50K miles on my 1100 in four years and in all honesty a fair whack of that was on the motorway commute, the sixth gear might have saved me a few pennies on fuel but apart from that no real difference.
The only grumble I had, and it is true of both is that the lights are absolutely crap. My current Vara has lights as good as they get.

The `1150 without question, numerous improvements were made with the 1150 over the 1100.
If you can afford the extra 1K its a no brainer, i just changed from an 11 to an 1150 well worth trading up.

Richie no offence meant. Saw the 1100 first and hoped it would be a dog so make the choice easier but its a peach.
Regarding the Varadero I understand several of my mates are Varadero champions who have warned me of the gearbox/drive shaft horror stories but I just like the bike and cannot seem to find a cheap Vara.

Never had an 1150GS, but I have an 1100GS and have also owned an 1150R. For me, it would be the 1100 every time.

whizzy brakes that lose power if the ABS faults+£1K extra plugs to change if its a twinspark, +£1K hydraulic clutch with quick leak slave cylinder +£1K surging as standard +£1K other than that, theres not much in it, did I mention the £1K difference in price? :aidan

surging as standard? hmmm, never had that, nor leaky seals etc,
my mate had far more probs with his 1100,
ABS, especially...
i recon they are about as reliable as each other tbh,
i liked the 1150 for the extra gear,
