Hi all,

Thinking about selling my 1100 as I bought a 1200GSA a couple of months ago and also have the R9T. Paid £2500 for it late 2023 but I see the values of the recent ones here are £1700 or so !! Could anyone advise a price? It’s 1997, 78k miles, 3 keys, lots of service history, I have rebuilt the front brake system + new discs. It’s mechanically excellent but tatty. Any ideas on value would be much appreciated

Realistically I’d think you’re looking at £1.5k for it. Not trying to be overly harsh but that’s about the going rate, particularly given the mileage. They are great bikes and I’d struggle to part with mine given what it is worth now. Any likelihood you could just keep it?

Sadly oilheads but especially 1100's are the undervalued end of BMW's... I'm very had a few and have upgraded etc but it's always "cost", especially as I'm not a big cleaner and use them year round... Mileage always makes a difference but condition is the main thing on older oilheads...

I look at it this way... £2.5k is way less than running a PCP donkey and with approx 25-30k miles is waaaay more than most folk will do so it's almost expendable over a couple of years... Obviously the cost of running and upgrading adds to that but it still is a better cost...
Also, as a serial 1100GS owner I've tried many more bikes mainly perceived "upgrades", in-between my 5 and they have rarely matched up to my expectations and mental value for money... Good luck👍

Thanks both that's really helpful. Might well keep it at that sort of price point. I was planning on just getting something a bit rough for commuting into London. The 1100 is a bit lumpy for that IMO but given the low value ticks all the other boxes so might be worth just using it.

You describe it as tatty, so it's probably not going to be top of the thieves' target list, so you can park it in London with a bit less worry.

I use mine year round for commuting (and touring, Sunday rides, everything in between) and honestly I can’t fault it. Occasionally it’s needed some parts but that’s probably my favourite bit and why I can’t see myself with much else - I can fix it myself and there’s an excellent supply of parts available.

Speaking of, just checked and slightly adjusted valve clearances yesterday - took all of about 20 minutes (most of that was taking the crash bars off). Couldn’t do that on the new 1300…

You say it’s a bit ‘lumpy’ can I ask in what way you mean? What cat code plug do you have and when was the last time the throttle bodies were sync’d?
