I should know this seeing as I've had my GS for so long.

I'm in the Alps at the mo with a mate on a 1200RT and I'm showing empty far more often than he is. I'm brimming the tank with 18litres and getting 220miles before no fuel bars and petrol light on. What's likely to be left in my tank?

Official figures are 25 litres total. Fuel light on when 5 litres are left, however general concensus is that approx. 1 litre gets stuck in right lobe and must be `released` by leaning the bike right over on its right side.

right lobe,,,,right side,,,???

Left lobe methinks, I get 178 miles fuel light on 17-18 litres fill up could push it to 200.

I get nearly exactly 200miles between 18ltr fill ups on my daily commute. More if I use motorways. Never run it to empty do don't know total range.

I get on average 100 miles more per tank on my 1200rt than my 1100gs and that is with the early plastic tank on the 1100, which I believe holds slightly more than the metal one.

On my old 1100 I used to get to around 180 miles before the light came on. (Filled to bottom of un-modified filler). On a run to Skye, the light came on at Alexandria, and I got to the Green Welly Stop with 230 miles showing. Can't remember how much it took to fill.

On my latest one, the light is coming on around 200-210 miles, and I'm regularly covering 240-250 between fill-ups. The best I got was on the RBLR1000 back in June. Filled to bottom of filler just off Erskine Bridge. Next filled up to same point in Wick. 274 miles, and it took 20.85l.

Though we were riding 'steady' due to both traffic an Linda's fear of cops/cameras (she was one stop away from a ban), were weren't crawling either.

I got back from the alps a week ago. My 1100 (smaller steel tank these days) did 200 miles (ish) to my personal one bar 'gottagetfuelsoon' limit. Two up, fully loaded, I averaged between 48 (autobahn thrash down there) and 53mpg (general riding around and passes). I never saw the fuel light or had to push it to see how much reserve I had so can't say what the absolute limits are.

on a run from Alexandria to cupar approx. 100 mile each way the light came on at gartocharn about 10 miles from home

so light on at 190 mile mark and I think I filled it up a few days later at 220 miles (bottle crashed I probably could have stretched it a bit more)

Just got back from today's runaround.
Kendal>Sedburgh>Kirkby Stephen>Brough>Middleton-in-Teesdale>Stanhope>Edmunbyers>Corbridge>Bellingham>Keilder>Jedburgh>Hawick>Carlisle>Penrith>Kendal.

Filled up before I left, and at same place when I got back. 257.8 miles, it took 20.57 litres. Just a tad shy of 57 MPG.

I didn't notice the miles when the light came on but it was somewhere on the Penrith side of the Carlisle>Penrith stretch, probably 220-225 ish. I did notice that the light came on just as the last bar went out, seems that side of things is set up well.:)

1997 model, usually fill up around 200 miles (fuel light on) have gone once to 220 miles to the tank ,last 20 miles looking for a petrol station
