So now that I'm committed to keeping the GS a bit longer I am all in on sorting her out. John Gimi stage 16 chip on its way, I've installed 1200 injectors but wondering about the air intake. I know it made a huge difference on my Triumph Scrambler when I installed a bell mouth intake and new filters. Has anyone done something similar on an 1100? Any other mods which have made a difference in day to day riding ?
TIA,Steve

The chip should make a decent difference... You've done the main two and the chip change on these open loop bikes helps to add more lower revs running and a bit looser top end...
The thing with Oilheads is they are fairly restricted re tuning but it's mainly about lower revs driveability... Much of the difference in bikes is due to how they've been ridden as well as miles and usage make a huge difference to them freeing up.
I've changed exhausts in the past which makes them sound quicker but I just ride with the standard one these days...

I have an FD off an 850RT on mine. Not by choice (long story) but it is about 6% lower gearing. The bike is quicker off the mark, but of course at motorway speeds it is pulling slightly higher revs. I actually quite like it.

Put 1200 injectors in it day before yesterday, made a big difference to the steadiness of the idle, hoping for an improvement in low speed running.

Don’t bother with the chip, save your money.
If you want more torque, fit RT throttle body inlet tubes.
To be fair John is shippinmg me the new chip for $20 so ill give it a go. The RT tip I havent heard before, what impact does that change have ?
Thanks Steve

If you throw everything at it you’ll end up with a highly strung pig with very little benefit.

Funny thing is, a quick search throws up results where RT owners are fitting GS intake tubes.🙄

Are those Rocket Sprockets still available? They were backed up by dyno charts IIRC...

I think if you want to go fast then one of the later bikes might be the way to go. Careful setup and some top quality suspension with springs for your weight goes a long way on the 11s.

Yes, I know .. funny how some people just want to feck around pointlessly just to be different.. and usually end up with a bike that’s not as good to ride as a standard bike that’s been set up correctly :D
One of the best 1100GS I’ve ever ridden was one of my old loan bikes.. every customer who rode it commentated how good it was… trouble was you had to fill the tank every 115/130 miles :D ..

Oof, that's a bit juicy! I go 100 miles further on a tank touring two up.

That’s why I sold it… mind you, it was one of the original 1100 owned by BMW and given to the press to road test when it was launched ., might explain the phenomenal performance.. I had it apart looking for any differences in the engine/electtics, etc, but all seemed standard .,

Are the RT throttle inlet tubes worth to fit to a r1150gs which has the two part long tubes fitted?

You know what they say - hp sells engines, torque wins races.
Partly age, partly Oilhead experience but much to do with set up, I rarely rev my 11 above 4-4.5k these days... Mostly between 2 and 4k and it's all torque and engine braking that gives it the quality it has... Might be old shite but it's good old shite...😆
