Pity Wrinklyowlie got no takers on here for the very bike for £6000

I know I couldn't believe it myself. I can't understand paying so much more for a 1200 when the 1150 is a better bike (imho).

To be fair, Wrinkly is not too tall and is of slight frame and has just had a major op......................so I can see his point to switch to a lighter and not so tall bike

Hope the new year see's you well.
Not to tall but not to short either 5'10" although i do only have a 29" inside leg.
At 15st i wouldn't say i was slight of frame and that's more of a solid 15st rather than flab.
Weight or height was never an issue with the 1150 and it was a great bike,but i believe the mk2 1200 is a better bike.
I did end up getting a very good deal in p/ex for the new 1200 and they let me remove all the extras which made the deal even sweeter.
Four month's down the road and my old 1150se is still unsold and standing in Rainbow's showroom, also in the 2mnt's i spent trying to sell it i had no serious enquires.
It is a nice bike in nice condition with a complete history and in 6 mnt's of being for sale has not sold,this would suggest to me that it's not as desirable a bike as many believe it to be.
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned warranty,i do think that there must be an awful lot of folks out there that don't realise that even if you buy privately you can buy a warranty for your bike,also a warranty is not worth £1000 on a bike,you could purchase a very comprehensive warranty from a very reputable company for under £250.

Best bike residual money wise over next 3 years, most smiley faces in timescale, risk of breakdown and associated costs, general sunday 250 mile blast ability ( not really in to touring yet )


05 1150ADV SE 10,000 miles @ £7100
or 06 12000 ADV 16,000 miles @ £7250

Both bikes come from private sellers, height and weight dont come into it for me as a rider just judge the bikes please !!!

Faultless, reliable, proved her ability on 1500mile two day blasts to Morocco, ringing her neck around the Nurburgring, submerging her on Salisbury Plain, and enduring the daily grind into central London. And sold it for £8750 admittedly with every extra but cracking condition.

But, despite owning a K1300S now I (and SWMBO), know that I will end up with another GS and it will likely be 1150GSA or a 80GSPD.

The 1200 is bought with the head, the others with the heart. Just my two cents.

Given your two options, I would most definately go for the 1150 GSA SE, I have had the 1200GS and an 08 GSA, the 1150 GSA SE, (which I sold for a good sum to a very nice man from Bularia) and currently have an 04 GSA ( and a GS1100) The SE willl hold its value more and give you more satisfaction, in my humble opinion.

I ordered my SE in 2005 because it was cheaper than the non SE model . Also the sales man in the "dealership" (no longer working there) only wanted €3,000 euros with my old adventure as a trade in. The other dealership in dublin at the time wanted €6,000 . The bike is now five years old with 41,000 km's on it and it gets used every day as my main mode of transport here in gridlocked dublin. The exhaust header pipes are rusty like scaffolding but the blue white still stands out. Would / will I buy another 1150 adventure ? Yes.

Why GSA's?
For Sunday blasts buy a newer R1200GS or save a small fortune & look for a decent '03 R1150GS for 4K ish.

my 04 fully loaded GSA had to go for a recall so whilst waiting i noticed they had one in ! ! ! ! ! ! no extras on it
i was looking round it and the sales man thought i wanted to buy
so he went to inspect my bike which is clean and well kept
he then started trying to find fault with my beautiful gsa1150 now that does piss me off
he said i could trade mine in and give him £2750 WOW !!!!!!!
that was for a one year newer
i loved the bike but certainly wouldn't have paid him that
i first saw one outside hein geirike in manchester it was brand spanking new and fell in love not just the gsa but because it looked really special still do so all you lucky dudes out there who have one lucky sods plenty of polish if i ever get to change mine because thets the one i would like

I wouldn't say the SE's are any better than a standard 1150 Adventure its just that they are the last ones made and by that time they were just perfect I really like the black ones myself

Just think that the newest 1150's are 5 years old now and an absolute classic in the making

My Silver 2005 1150Adv was on the production line in Spandau, at the same time as the 1150Adv SE's.......................so there is no difference in component spec and quality on either bike at that time.......................so anyone believing that the SE is anyway better is delusional

My Silver Adv was £9200 with HG and no ABS, so it would have been £10k with ABS and thus £500 dearer.................I wasn't having servo ABS at any price, so was happy with my Silver one................sans ABS

Exactly, it's always been the same and with all manufacturers...'they' decide what we want and we believe them.

'They' take our money, 'we' think it must be 'better' ....well it must be, cos it's the latest innit.....the majority are happy, and I guess that's what it's all about for the masses

I recently paid top price (which broke the bank) for another virtually brand new SE, not because I'm a luddite but 10 years of 1150 ownership and faultless travel taught me something.....I think

1150 GSA SE just great!

Stolzy and I both have GSA SEs and swear by them. (I actually swore at mine last year when I had a bearing on the front end of the intermediate shaft collapse last summer in France but that's another story: AA relay, lots of dosh, ages etc. But thank you Steptoe!) Anyway, that aside, both of us - me in UK him in France decided that for the money, I payed £9k for mine new, you got a lot of bike compared with the then new 1200 or a standard GSA. Still think this and a lot of miles down the track think the same. Wouldn't part with mine. Apart from the looks, it is obviously the same as a GSA but its nice to have something a little different and the extras it came with were good. ABS - yes I agree, I believe this is a pain when it (eventually packs up) but so far so good and I actually like it - on road of course). Tyres - I still ride on TCK80s (the original spec) and get on fine with them too. (Only option if you want to go off road really.) Both these bikes have been as high off road as you can legally get, over 3000m in Europe (I believe) - Italian Alps and were just fantastic on and off road. I often do long work rides in the UK and carry lots of gear in Hepco and Becker boxes. Again works for me. Apart from this, the best upgrade you can do is fit HIDs. Lights are crap. About to do this.
Compared to the 1200, I like: the looks, less electronics, less plastic and its got more than enough power for me!

Yep if I had the spare money I'd buy a second and stick it in my garage for that time in the future when I might need it.

The SE came with ABS, heated grips, engine bars and clear lenses as standard. About £1300 worth, not £500

You really really want one don't you It's OK, you can admit it, we won't mind
