Out yesterday on my 1150 gs and the brake failure light started flashing brakes still working so carried on after a bit lost back brake. Got back checked pads etc nothing obvious but the pump seems intermittent bike is 2003 with abs any ideas please cheers Steve:confused:

The dreaded servo:nenau

If the servo is intermittent, it may be on it's last legs.

I guess a trip to the diagnostic machine should give you a better clue.

They are expensive:eek: but removing it and going back to old fashioned brakes isn't. The servo brakes are very good, but I always found them unnecessary. I'm on non abs non servo brakes, they work just fine:thumb2

I had exactly the same problem with my 2002 1150. In fact I still have the problem very occasionally now.
When it happens the back brake seems to go into residual mode but the front one works. If I stop the bike and start up again the brakes go back to normal.

I had a main dealer investigate and they could not come up with anything. Of course the problem never occurred for them when they tested the bike!

I have changed the fluid twice since the problem first arose and this hasn't cured it. The problem is quite infrequent so until it gets worse or something permanent happens I will live with it. Then I will take off the ABS unit!

Easy checks ...

... make sure your rear brakelight bulb is ok, not just that it operates, but that both filaments are intact; second, ensure that your handguards aren't fouling the lever because if it doesn't get full return you'll start getting warning lights.
