Finally got round to sorting the fuel filter as part of prepping for a "proper" trip in spring. However the inevitable gremlins have arrived.

1) Looks like i am not the first to venture in there and two of the studs on the tank flange are actually missing.Looks like they have sheared off. Any ideas how they can be replaced?

2) Fuel hoses for breathers and filter etc are all held in place by a pipe clamp type I've not seen before but look standard to BMW.How are they released? Is there a special tool?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Q1 - I'm pretty convinced I've seen a post that answered this with - don't bother.

Q2 - Looking at the parts fiche the clamps look pretty standard - never heard of the need for a 'special tool'

sorry can't be more help.

Fuel filter

Re broken studs if it waesnt leaking before you took it off don't worry about it. As for clips just get them off with a pair of pliars and by some new ones from bmw if you can get the type witha screw and nut to clamp up, or get these in a motor accessory shop make sure the fuelfilter is around the right way look at the arrow.

Thanks Gents.

So studs, just ignore/cross fingers and bog standard jubilee clips it is!

No BMW dealer for miles unfortunately. nearest is Plymouth.

Hi Jaythro,
Used all three in the past and jolly good they are too! However if one needs BM specific parts in a hurry it can be a bind and there is no local BM specific knowledge although the local non franchised bike shop is a good all rounder. Still, thats what this forum does.

DH, you are right, I use the term jubillee clips generically which of course they are not. I'm using petrol pipe specific types as per your piccy.

Studs are across the flange at approx 1 oclock and 7 oclock.
