Hi all, can anyone help me with this....
i used to own an 1100gs with plastic tank and never noticed the fuel pump noise, even when low on fuel...i now have an 1150 with a metal tank and the pump gives off a whine similar to the noise you get on gs's when you turn on the ignition, is this normal for these bikes with this tank?
cheers jez

if its as loud as when it primes when you turn on the ignition then the pump could be struggling for some reason , but most likey singing its death throws:(
its this even with a full tank?

hopefully a better mind will be along shortly to put my opinion to bed:thumb

no, only had the bike a few days, just been reading up and fuel filter seems to be a good place to start from what i've read, nice one chad! will see what happens from there, been reading reports of them sounding like harrier jump jets!

ok mate hope that works:thumb2
How loud is loud..........
My old pump did 70 odd k before I replaced it (whining slightly masked by the engine noise when running), and its replacement sounded exactly the same as it's replacement irrespective of fuel tank volume...
If your bike is starting and running fine then don't worry!!!!!!! just enjoy.
:D

Mine whines noticeably, bit louder as the tank goes down but always there. No change when the filter was replaced last service. Been doing it for years, so I figure it's not broken while the bike still goes...

One of my old 1150's whined all the time.... never got any better or worse ;)

In the end I just stopped worrying about it :thumb

Heh, these are the sort of answers i like! i definately think the steel/plastic tank is a factor, next time i see another 1150 i'm going to ask if i can listen to the fuel pump, see what sorta reaction that gets!

its that single bike character thing some do some dont from noisy pumps to vibes to christ knowswhat else:D:D:D:D:D

is it called character:P still might be worth changing your filter anyway:thumb

They are all different, some are noisey some aren't. Don't worry about it.

Hi Steptoe, just the man to ask, the bike's running a Y-piece with stock silencer and as i now know, a wunderlich chip, there's a sheet of instructions that comes with these chips that mentions fuel pump whine remaining after priming, unfortunately they're not too clear... any experience of this setup producing this? any thoughts would be welcome.

What they mean is the pump doesn't turn itself off after priming when you turn the ignition on ( without the engine running). Other makes of chip are year specific for the bike they're being used on which get around this problem.

The wunderlich chip is a generic chip to any year of 1150. Some years of bike will have this problem, others won't.

My old gs was silent, my current one whines - seems to run just fine

The one on my 1100S has been whining loudly for the last 70k and still goes fine. The GS whines a bit too - I reckon it's nothing to worry about:)

If anyone is tempted to change their fuel filter on an 11xxGS I have a pdf step by step document I made some time back of how to do it but it's too large to post here so drop me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you.

My pump some times starts to be noisy but the next time you full the tank stops it has its moments. as other people say dont worry and enjoy the bike. After a while you will stop worrying about all the weird noises those bikes make anyway..:)
