Anyone know if its poss to put the enduro first gear into to a std gs gearbox?
is their a kit of parts avail?
I presume 2 gears and selector fork needed.
atb Paul.

No selector needed ??? I did it last year and posted it -try a search

Thanks Neil

I searched and searched, couldnt find it, but have now.
If i drop the box off to you, any idea on cost?
Its only recently been rebuilt by bmw, so there shouldnt be much wrong.
Im quite happy with the high top gear 4k rpm @ 80mph, its just first gear is too tall for traffic, its a pain in the arris.
Just finished paying civil for a set of pannies, this is the next project.

My understanding was that you can't have low 1st AND high 6th in the same box:nenau - although I'm sure Neil will know the answer. When you selected your gearbox option when ordering a new bike you could only have one or the other - I've always assumed it was a physical size thing:mmmm

It was only the GSA variant where you could select the low 1st gear (the "enduro" gear) at the time of ordering. The ordinary GS version only ever had the higher first and 6th gears. There was a US only (i believe) "Sport" GS which had the Hi 1st and Lo 6th gears as a close ratio box. Also used on the UK (maybe other markets) Oilhead "R" variant.

Gears

The best way I found is to fit a bevel box from an 1100, simple and it gives a lowere gear which is great for traffic and not a all too revvy in top. Try it any way lot less hassel the rebuilding gear boxes and cheaper and if you don't like it you will soon flog it. Mr S. supplied mine in 2007 and have never looked back. Dia about 21,000 miles ojn it on a little poodle and put the original one back on my return, it stayed on a week and I put it back to low again brilliant in traffic saves the clutch and strain on splines.
Dave GS (85,00 on same clutch! )

That sounds like a good idea Dave, thanks for the pm, i'll take you up on that, kinda makes sense really.
how much dough did you pay for the bevel box?
cheers Paul

Paul,
probably be out on Sunday so will find out for you can't remember offhand but it aint too bad, don't be tempted by an 851 bevel box as suggested on Ad rider these are much too low.
have sent pm.
Dave
