My trusted 1150GS has after 20 years reliable work shot it’s gearbox.
Most likely bearings gone.
That’s my holiday plans changed end of this week, anyway...
Spoken to Mike and he hasn’t got a refurbed box at the moment, so has anybody got a good gearbox ideally GAG or GAE , might also use a JAG or JAH
Normal 1st gear and 6 overdrive or long gear, either black or silver
Cheers ladies and gents, any support appreciated

Are you looking for a temp loaner until yours is fixed and reinstalled, or looking for permanent?

I have a gearbox that I bought from a salvage bike years ago, sitting in a box on a shelf in the garage and filled with oil to keep it good. It’s my spare for just such a situation because I had to swap my R80GS ‘box a few times when I was commuting to work, then replaced the bearings/seals as required and shelved it until next time. I got the 1150 in 2001 and got the chance to do the same thing of having a spare, but never needed it (so far...)

It’s buried at the moment but, being an early 1150, it matched the one on my bike which is a GAE - normal 1st and ‘E’ 6th.

Some good folks on this forum - well done PY:thumb

Thank to all your kind comments..
@Paul..If I have to do it or get it done I would prefer just to do it once...many thanks for your offer, very kind..
Most BMW chaps are booked anyway way into October...
So might have to take the car, but it ain’t the same fun as with the bike..
Did 5000 mls last year through France , wonderful, she never let me down, but I reckon 20 years and 112000 km is not bad for the old girl..
If I could get a goodn now I would spend next week trying to change myself....:thumby:

I understand... I’m happy to help, but don’t want to be without a good spare gearbox, myself IYSWIM.

Pick up a s/h one from one of the usual sources and get it swapped. Get your broken one rebuilt, then decide whether to keep it or sell it on to offset your outlay.
