Not usually a technical chap , but thought "how hard can it be?" thanks to handy dandy posts on here - new cable is connected to back of speedo at the top, but before I put all the dash and screen gubbins back together again, I thought I'd just check the cable first........ However, on turning the inner cabley thingy at the bottom of the newly-connected-at-the-top cable, I expected to see the speedo needle do something, but it isn't moving at all.
It was definitely a faulty speedo cable that caused the speedo to fail in the first place - the inner bit had broken at the bottom end, because it fell out when my mate took the bottom of the cable out to check it.
From the posts on here, it seems it would be a REMARKABLE coincidence if the speedo cable driver doofery thingywotsit on the wheel had failed at EXACTLY the same time as the cable broke - or am I wrong ? I suspect I'm doing something daft or overlooking something obvious.

Any suggestions, wiser ones? Bike in drive half finished now , so look forward to suggestions asap, please.
thanks in advance,
