Evening all,
It's been a while since I've been here. The bike hasn't had any issues for ages until now.

The bike is a 2002 1150GS ABS non-servo.

Yesterday morning when I turned on the ignition and the ABS warning lights are blinking alternately. Start bike, ride off, lights are still blinking alternately. No ABS. Brakes are fine.

The manual says this could be due to a drained battery. So, just to make sure, I charged the battery over night. This morning the lights are still blinking alternately. When the battery has been a bit low in the past the two ABS lights would blink at the same time and only alternately when after starting the engine. Not so this time.

Anyone know what the problem is?

Could it be an ABS sensor? I'm not sure how to check.

All was well on Sunday so something went wrong overnight.

Oh, I did so a search but that mostly showed Servo bike issues.

Press the switch next to the starter button before starting the engine it might reset it, it worked for me in the past

Cheers chaps.

I've tried pressing the ABS button before turning on the ignition. That didn't work.

I'll try the ABS reset as soon as possible. I've never had to look for the diagnostic plug before. Anyone have a picture of it?

Make sure your front brake lever isn't fouling on the hand guard, it needs full travel to reset the ststem.

It's under the front seat, located on top of the airbox. Big round socket, you can't miss it :-)

Update:
Front brake lever is not touching anything. Made sure the rear brake lever wasn't sticking either.
ABS reset didn't work.

Is this the point where it starts getting expensive?

I'll take it to my local independent at the weekend to see if they can pull an error code.

Anything else I can check in the meantime?

Bingo! That did the trick. The two reset procedures I tried are essentially the same. The brown/blue wire is grounded either against the frame or the brown(ground) wire. The difference is the time to hold the button. The 8 second process is too short. The 60 second one worked.

I like these free fixes. I do wonder what caused it though. All was well on Sunday. Dry 30 mile ride to warm it up ready for an oil change. Oil change complete and it was put back in the garage, Monday morning and it was all broken.

Thanks to all who replied. Much appreciated.

Mine worked as well, in my case, it only ever goes when I go through very wet weather. Doesn't sound the same for yours. When I get mine serviced next time by my local independent BMW guy I'll ask him about it.

Got this problem on my 1100r now, tried all the reset procedures described above and no joy :blast

Don't think its a low voltage battery as I tried it when it was hooked up to the optimate and it was showing just over 14 volts, shows 12.3v when disconnected

What's my options now??

Visit to a local BMW stealer to hook up the diagnostics tool and shell out loads of Wonga?? :(

Any other clues guys ??

Check and clean your battery terminals, and any earth terminals, and apply some copper grease to prevent further corrosion, worked for my 1100

Cheers Fester,

I'll give it a go and then repeat the reset procedures, but I must admit I'm a bit sceptical something so simple will sort it out, I'd be happy to be proved wrong though :thumb2
