Hi all, fuel gauge has stopped working on my 1150 gs 2001 , took sender out to change filter and now nothing at all on gauge , checked sender for broken or loose wires all seems ok, any ideas to solve this would be appreciated

Can't offer a solution unfortunately but I have a similar tale. Replaced the fuel pump and now the fuel and temperature gauge jump up and down between the bars until the tank is about two thirds full and then the temp gauge and fuel gauge settle down and give a steady reading. Inspected the sender unit and can't find anything bent/amiss and the pump plate is in the right position. I don't mean to hijack your thread but I'll be following it with interest.

Often down to a poor connection or earth around the plug/socket behind the black cover near your right knee.

As above. Check the small brown wire into the fuel pump multi plug and make sure it’s in good condition. They are known to burn out (not sure why) and it does cause these issues. Had same on mine- fuel gauge not reading correctly and temp gauge not getting up to steady temp.

If it's not the wires/connectors mentioned above, it might be the variable resistor thing in the tank. Try using a soft pencil eraser and contact cleaner on it. Make sure the tang makes good contact with it, I'd to bend mine gently. Worked a treat for me, I used to get no bars on RID, now they're all showing.

haydw help ! , I have exactly this problem after shorting the battery on the tank. Where do I find the small brown wire /fuel pump multi plug , is it under the tank ? Thanks AlanT

It's under, and to the rear, of the tank on the right side. You may be able to access it by just pulling off the plastic shroud thingy at the base of the tank.
