1150 GS oil cooler fan

Hi Lee, do you intend to make enough of these to sell or is this an experiment...just curious

The experimentation phase is behind me. They will be commercially available soon. I already made a small production of shrouds for the 1150GS and only await to receive my order for M4x55 stainless bolts to start offering them.

Do you have a ballpark cost for these Lee?
(As I said earlier, I'm definitely interested in a 1200GSA version if and when you have them available).
Cheers
Matt

Price of the shroud kit will be $100.00cad / 67 Euros / 50 Brit pounds. That will NOT include the 4" Spal fan (part #30103018) which is made in Italy and equipes many makes of cars and bikes. I think some KTM runs Spal fans. Once I am ready, I will show the other kits I have for BMW bikes. ;-)

Great :thumb2

This is the first prototype. More fitment testing will be done to see howit clears the front suspension, harness, etc.
Shall fit 1200GS' first generation / 2004-2007. Will test fitment for others. Shall help keep the 1200GS run cooler in stand still traffic jams. ;-)

I don't think they will fit any Adventure bikes as those have the "bumpers" passing right behind the oil cooler if I am not mistaken.

Well I was with you for a while, but now see that unless the fan is running it's more likely to overheat with that amount of restriction.

THisnis were most people don't understand that even if the rad core has a larger surface than the fan, that surface is blocked bu oil channels and fins. You'd be right if there was no obstruction. But it is not the case woth a radiator. You're losing a lot of efficiency because of the restriction.

if you want to experiment, simply ride 100kph and compare the speed of air around you, and the speed of air right behind the oil cooler. That oul cooler has a lot of restriction. Therefore, the 4" fan is adequate. ;-)

Ps This is the first fitment prototype. On the final production units, there will be opening and rubber flaps. Flaps that will automatically pushed if there's excess pressure within the shroud, and that will close by tehmselve when the fan is sucking air. KTM does that on the 950 and 990.

Ah, now I'm with you again :D My 640 KTM uses flaps:beerjug:

Looking good - shame about it not fitting the 1200 Adventures though :(

My 1150GSA has a kit fitted. It has the same size of oil cooler, and no rubber flaps. It doesn't run any hotter at all. But implementing KTM-style flaps will be done just because it wouldn't hurt...

Rubber flaps can be seen on the right of the KTM 990 Enduro shroud. The KTM 990 SME doesn't have them.

Hello, there is someone who can bring me photos of this prototype of fan oil cooler actually working on a BMW GS?

You may struggle to contact him, he hasn’t been back to this forum since 2016.
