1150 GS won't start!

Possibly a silly suggestion (almost embarrassed to suggest it!).......

but

you haven't put diesel in your tank by mistake?

I once did this and got EXACTLY the symptoms you are describing.

To test put a bit of fuel from your tank onto your finger. If it evaporates its petrol if it does not you have done what I did!

Update: the bike started this morning but is billowing thick fumes as if it is running very rich. Have not taken it on road yet as v foggy here!

How does this affect Dr Steptoe's previous diagnosis?

I actually typed "see if it starts in the morning after drying out overnight" on my original post before deleting it as i didn't want to cause confusion.

I'd get the bike up to temperature and have a ride around very locally and see how it behaves when hot..
When starting to fail hall sensors have a habit of stopping when hot and then working fine once they've cooled back down.

Update #2: have been riding the bike around the local area. It's now running fine, at 5 bars on the heat gauge. Thanks to all for support, I will keep monitoring it.

Maybe a bit of dirt in the tank? Was the tank near empty perhaps? I had what I presume was a bit of dirt in the tank on my 1150, it would not start, eventually did with the same symptoms as yours except with a monumental bang from the exhaust! Never let it go to empty after that. Hope it stays fixed for you!
